This is my first time trying this special Lava Durian in Si Sa Ket farm during my recent Explore Isan Trip. Do you want to know what is so special about Lava Durian? Well, lava durian has a unique taste, because it is grown in volcanic soil that is not found anywhere else, only in Si Sa Ket.

There is an inactive volcano near Sisaket and during the last eruption, the lava formed the soil in Si Sa Ket. That is the reason why durians farmed with lava soil has better taste and quality.

The lava durian comes in three varieties, namely Monthong, Chanee, and Kanyao. This is probably the best durian in Thailand and it is from the northeast province of Si Sa Ket.

After tasting both Thailand Lava Durian and Malaysian Durian, both have different texture and taste. The durian lava we tried is from Monthong Durian. The texture is crispy on the outer with creamy texture inside. To me its slight dry and the size is bigger than the usual Malaysian Durian.

We were told that the Lava Durian is sold at 180 Baht per kg in Si Sa Ket, and probably more expensive when it travel to Bangkok or export.
