Natural Ingredients That Your Skin Loves

There are so many skincare products on the market it can be difficult to work out what you really need. Acids and serums have been big news in the beauty world for the last few years. But all it takes is mixing the wrong acids at the wrong time of day, and you can cause irritation and upset to your skin.

For those with sensitive skin, the chances are you avoid acids and astringents when possible because you know that redness and itching aren’t fun. When it comes to natural ingredients are the best way to help reduce the likelihood of a reaction.

How can you see if a product is natural?

It is important not to confuse the terms natural and organic. Natural ingredients typically come from the sea or the land (think algae when it comes to sea ingredients). When something is botanical, it typically comes from plants.

Natural chemicals can and, in some cases, do contain chemicals. While anything truly organic will have no fertilizers, pesticides, or other chemicals. Anything that is labeled organic needs to adhere to stricter guidelines, while natural products are more relaxed in their labeling.

You can look for certifications on the packaging and double-check what they mean.

What are some of the best natural ingredients for the skin?

Neroli Oil

Neroli oil comes from steam distillation of bitter orange trees - and that is what gives it the distinct scent. Neroli oil is often used in creams, oils, and cosmetics as it has the following properties:

  • Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory
  • Improves wrinkles and skin hydration
  • Anti-scarring properties
  • Dark spot fading

Rosemary Extract

Most of the time, we eat rosemary, or you can find it in some soothing tea. Rosemary is packed with antioxidants that can help the skin with eczema and acne because it contains anti-inflammatory. Anything that has rosemary in it won’t have very high levels in it because the compounds can be very strong - and when usage is heavy, it can aggravate your skin.

Rosemary can help with the following:

  • Reduce the effects of UV rays, and prevent some level of cell damage
  • It can help to heal wounds
  • Often used as a natural preservative for skincare products as it is antibacterial and antimicrobial
