Through the changing times and tides of the city, Lai Ching Yuen has stayed steadfast and true to its menu of age-old Cantonese dishes synonymous with luxury, all served within a classical Chinese interior of red and black accented by Oriental table settings of rosewood high back chairs, marbled tables and fine china crockery.
To welcome the Year of the Water Rabbit, the team at Grand Millennium KL will be serving up delectable spreads at Lai Ching Yuen and putting up a special show that is all about sweeping away the old and making way for the new.

Yee Sang is a ‘must’ during Chinese New Year celebrations and is an integral part of the festivities. Chef Thye and his team at Lai Ching Yuen invite all to toss for good luck and prosperity with six available selections. In addition to the usual choices of jellyfish and crispy fish skin, diners can also opt to luxe up their Yee Sang with Soft Shell Crabs, Norwegian Salmon and Sliced Abalone. There is also a vegetarian option for those who don’t fancy seafood. Prices range from RM138++ to RM498++ per whole portion.
Dishes To Usher In Prosperity
In addition to the Yee Sang options, Chef Thye has also specially created three unique set menus, namely the "Active and Vigorously", “Peace Season” and "Smiles of Fortune" that serves 10 persons, priced between RM1888++ and RM3888++
Certain dishes are savoured during Chinese New Year for their symbolic meaning. Known as lucky food”, these dishes are believed to bring good luck for the coming year. The auspicious symbolism of these traditional Lunar New Year fare is based on their pronunciations or appearance.
When described in Chinese, each food on the menu takes on a whole new significance. For example, the delicate combination of sweet, salty, and aromatic flavours in the Fried Slipper Lobster in Superior Broth OR you can taste the umami in the Braised Pork Knuckle with Sea Moss and Oyster Sauce. And not forgetting, traditional favourites like Braised Chinese Mushroom, Beancurd and Stuffed Sea Cucumber with Broccoli (a Lai Ching Yuen speciality), Fried Green Eye Grouper with Hot Oil in Wave Style and Traditional Chinese Wax Meat Rice served in Clay Pot.
The menu features more than just mouth-watering specialties. This allows for intergenerational bonding within families. A full table, complete with traditional delicacies believed to bring abundance, fortune, wealth, and prosperity, is said to usher in a prosperous new year.
Meet God of Prosperity and Partake in Rousing Lion Dance Performance
On the eve of the Chinese New Year (21 January 2023) at 7pm, the God of Prosperity will make a lap around the hotel’s lobby and restaurants to bestow his blessings and bring fortune to guests. This tradition is carried out in the hope that it will usher in good fortune and shield all from negative influences.
