The Women in Tech Global Movement - Malaysia Chapter (WIT) will host the inaugural WIT APAC Regional Awards and Open Day Conference in Kuala Lumpur, at Hotel Pavilion, Bukit Bintang. Recently, WIT Partner MAVCAP hosted a press conference at their Head Office expressing their support for the values and cause WIT is standing for.

As hosting nation of the WIT APAC Awards 2022, WIT’s Malaysia Country Director Ms. Yuki Aizawa said the that they are showcasing how the government, businesses, non-profit organisations and the academia are aligned to making Malaysia ASEAN’s digital hub.
“Close to 40% of the small and medium enterprises contribute to the country’s gross domestic product, the emphasis of empowering this sector through digital skills, especially the women, who were especially compromised during the pandemic are vital and through our ecosystem partners.” – Ms. Aizawa added.
She also emphasized: “Many women entrepreneurs need help in digital reskilling and upskilling, the understanding of the importance of intellectual property and financial literacy as business owners, among others.”
Ms. Noor Amy Ismail, Chief Operating Officer of MAVCAP, the Host of the press conference greeted the audience and mentioned that the organisation is currently backing more than 30 women entrepreneurs, with its mission to support women by being sustainable, inclusive and diverse.
“MAVCAP has been a venture capital for 21 years and we are ready to take the brand global”, hence the collaboration with WIT for the APAC Awards and Open Day Conference is timely and aligned, collective efforts are welcomed by both parties.
Importantly, Ms Aizawa added, “We’re also working with academia, specifically Uniten and Uniten R&D as one of the very first supporters in WIT’s initiatives. We need that integration and partnerships from all the stakeholders in the ecosystem: government, the commercial sector, academia and us NPO-s.
As Ms. Aizawa emphasized, WIT aims to educate and empower women and girls to succeed in areas of science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics. The organisation has programmes for every stage of a woman’s career lifecycle: from the classroom to the boardroom.

WIT APAC Awards
The inaugural APAC Regional Awards will take place in Kuala Lumpur on 6th of October at Pavilion Hotel, Bukit Bintang.
We have 8 categories for nominations:

Nominations have been closed, and the list of finalists will be announced by 22nd of September. The Jury of APAC Awards is composed of 16 high caliber representatives of STEM from APAC, list will be announced together with the list of finalists.
Winners will be announced on our Award Gala Dinner on 6th of October and will participate in the 5th Women in Tech® Global Awards in Dubai, on 13th of October 2022, where Global Winners will be announced.
WIT Open Day Conference
To add value to our Awards Gala Dinner Participants from Malaysia, APAC and beyond (Founder and HQ Team coming from France) they are glad to announce an Open Day Conference event held prior to the Gala Dinner on the same day and location, which will showcase the following topics :
Track Financial Institutions: Banks (panel with Affin Bank, MDEC, presentation by EY etc) and other FI-s (e.g. ETIQA) to talk about digitalisation and sustainability.
Track Women STEM talent shortage: Policies and practices– with universities (like UNITEN), business, governmental institutions, program (digital skills) provider to see the gaps and shortages to upskill, reskill and to look at supply x demand.
Track Women Founders: Business pitching, IP and Financial literacy workshops, MDEC showcasing its new Malaysia Digital Status program, women founders meeting VC-s, investors.
Track Emerging Tech: Presentation of the displayed, mostly women-led NFT Projects with social impact; how metaverse can be a great platform for FI-s and corporates in the near future.
These 4 tracks will be then the pillar of the WIT Malaysia’s activities for the next year, based on which their programs will be shaped.
The topics are of real relevance and took into consideration how Malaysia as a hosting nation is driving to be the heart of digital ASEAN, where the Country’s digital blueprint has several strategic components: empowering Digitally Skilled Malaysians, accelerating Digitally-Powered Businesses and attracting Digital Investments.
