Blue Ridge Parkway

There’s no better way to see the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina than to cruise “America’s favorite drive” on a bright sunny day. Whether you’re traveling by car, motorcycle, or bicycle, this scenic drive offers a breathtaking view of North Carolina that is unmatched. Along the way, you’ll find plenty of scenic overlooks and places to pull off to take a photo or have a picnic. 

North Carolina Botanical Garden

Part of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this lovely botanical garden boasts over 1,000 acres of land and features 10 acres of display gardens and natural settings perfect for a leisurely stroll or place to relax. Visitors can tour a number of gardens, nature trails, and exhibits, as well as attend educational programming and featured workshops throughout the year.

Outer Banks

If you’re looking to spend the day at the beach then check out the Outer Banks, spanning over 200 miles along the coastline. Stay at a well-known hotel offering all the amenities or rent out a cottage or beach house for a few days. The choice is yours. Either way, you’re sure to have a great time at the beach. 

USS North Carolina

The USS North Carolina was the first of 10 battleships to join the United States naval fleet during World War II. In her day, she was a powerful weapon of the sea but has since retired from duty. These days she offers guided tours for both history and military buffs alike. You can tour this amazing vessel in Wilmington, North Carolina. 

Charleston’s Historic District

Take a carriage ride through time and tour more than 1400 historic homes, churches, and other landmarks along the streets of this South Carolina city. Various places include valuable collections of art as well as historical artifacts that are sure to captivate your interest. Visitors can also attend the Old Exchange Building or the Old Slave Mart Museum for more information on Charleston’s past. 

Myrtle Beach

South Carolina also has its fair share of beautiful beaches for visitors to enjoy. Spend the day at the beach or plan a weekend adventure with plenty of local shops, family activities like Ripley’s Aquarium, dining, or musical shows at the Carolina Opry. 

USS Yorktown and Patriots Point

If you’re a military or history buff then you’ll want to check out this Essex-class aircraft carrier. The USS Yorktown earned 11 battle stars for service during World War II, as well as five battle stars for continued service in Vietnam. In 1975, the USS Yorktown was retired to Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum and now offers tours to the public.
