McDonald’s Malaysia Announces Anugerah Guru Inspirasi 2021 Winners

Congratulations to all the extraordinary teachers! On 31 May 2021, McDonald’s Malaysia honoured 25 recipients of Anugerah Guru Inspirasi 2021, in conjunction with this year’s National Teachers’ Day celebration. Let’s check out the winners and their inspiring journey. Malaysians submitted heartwarming stories of extraordinary teachers that went beyond the call of duty to educate, motivate, and inspire.

McDonald’s Malaysia Announces Anugerah Guru Inspirasi 2021 Winners

Well, this is the fifth edition of the award, and it received more than 4,000 nominations from Malaysians between 2 April to 18 April 2021. I’m sure you read about the remarkable teachers’ stories in my previous posts. From this pool of nominations that highlighted extraordinary teachers across the country, 25 teachers were selected as award recipients.

“Anugerah Guru Inspirasi serves as a platform to highlight educators who in essence, are really the extraordinary, everyday heroes in our lives,” said Azmir Jaafar, Managing Director and Local Operating Partner of McDonald’s Malaysia.

Anugerah Guru Inspirasi 2021

The award recipients were chosen by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from McDonald’s, the Ministry of Education, and the media. The selection criteria in identifying the chosen teachers include improving the academic performance of the students, employing innovative and out-of-the-box methods of teaching, going beyond the call of duty to assist students, and last but not least, the positive impact the teacher has had on students.

Cikgu Ong Soon Yeong from SJKC Pulau Betong, Pulau Pinang

One of the winners, Cikgu Ong Soon Yeong from SJKC Pulau Betong, Pulau Pinang who is also known as Cikgu Recycle atau Cikgu Sampah because of his strong effort to create environmental awareness and materializing the school Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Cikgu Ong is active in the green school program. 

Cikgu Ong has led the school to mobilize all green school programs by implementing various initiatives such as creating mini-gardens in the school environment and collaborating with NGOs to organize environmental education programs in an effort to create environmental awareness. 

Coming from one of the rural schools in Balik Pulau, Cikgu Ong’s initiatives had bridged the digital gap between urban and rural. He transformed the school’s old library to a modern space, and equipped it with resources and  facilities required in today’s learning. Congratulations to Cikgu Ong Soon Yeong from SJKC Pulau Betong, Pulau Pinang for being awarded the Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2021. 

Each of the 25 recipient of Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2021 received a cash award of RM5,000, while the nominator will receive RM200 worth of McDonald’s gift vouchers as a token of appreciation.

Let’s continue to appreciate our teachers of their hard work and dedication in educating the younger generation. Because of them, the child is not only a better student but became a better person.
