On World Book Day,
BookXcess - Malaysia’s leading alternative bookstore donated a total of 13,000
books to the underprivileged communities as part of their Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) campaign, Red Readerhood. BookXcess embarked on the
campaign in a bid to make books widely accessible to the underprivileged alongside
three non-governmental organisations (NGOs). The book drive was held within
their retail stores, where patrons of BookXcess were able to join hands and
purchase books for the needy.
The 13,000 books were
equally donated to Red Readerhood’s collaborating NGOs, which includes The Book Effect — a project under Friends to Mankind, NGOhub — an award-winning
humanitarian organisation established by its Malaysian founder, Raj Ridvan
Singh, and Buku Jalanan Chow Kit — an organisation that helps underprivileged children
to escape the cycle of poverty in Chow Kit area.
“In the spirit of
World Book Day and in line with our ongoing mission to make books and knowledge
accessible to all, we embarked on this campaign with the objective to assist
various communities in growing the future generation of readers. We are
privileged to be able to collaborate with our partners for this campaign and
look forward to working with more NGOs in the future. We hope our contribution
will insinuate hope within the hearts and minds of the recipients and help
build a new generation of intellectuals who will grow together as a better
nation and society in the future,” said Andrew Yap, Co-Founder of BookXcess
Sdn. Bhd.
Throughout the Red Readerhood campaign, BookXcess joined hands with its customers by matching each donation made by the public in-store to meet the 13,000-book goal. For more information and updates on BookXcess and its Red Readerhood programme, please visit https://www.bookxcess.com/
