During my phone interview session with Cikgu Ong, he shared about his experiences, inspirations, challenges, and his wishes. In the classroom his students often call him “daddy” because he is like a dad to them, not only teaching them but the most important is coaching and guiding his students to be a better person, academically and morally.

Still remember what was your ambition when you were a child, especially when you were given the related topic of essays? Would “teacher” be one of the answers for you to complete the task smoothly or just to elaborate well and score easily in exams? To be honest, the moment when Cikgu Ong wrote “teacher” as his ambition, it was true, because of his teacher, Cikgu Lim.

According to Cikgu
Ong, Madam Lim Yee Chee (Cikgu Lim) is the imspiration to him, she is the
kindest and most patient teacher he met in Year 6, has inspired him to be like
her in the future. Her patience in teaching could guide me to improve my Malay
language especially at the period of time when I was seriously poor and
struggled in essay writing.
Her efforts gave me a great foundation that eased my secondary school pursuits. With the high confidence level and great performances in front of audiences I have now, the credit must go to her. It’s because she gave a shy and introverted student an unforgettable experience when she purposely arranged for him to perform his first drama on stage during the graduation ceremony.
Yet I could remember the moment when I last enjoyed the big round of applause from the audience which helped to overcome my weakness. Hence, Cikgu Lim’s attitude in teaching and nurturing love really touched and inspired me to be an educator like her to guide and educate more great and successful students in the future.
ikgu Ong Ching Ting was nominated by Marissa Ariana Binti Harun for Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2021 |
During pandemic the
schools are closed, all classroom classes were converted to online classes.
Marissa faced lots of challenges attending online classes because she had to
use her mom’s mobile phone and shared with 2 of her siblings. Cikgu Ong did his
best to help her to get assistance from NGOs. Finally, Marissa got a tablet and
free top up for 3 months; with that she was able to attend her online classes
and prepare for exam soon.

Last but not least, Cikgu Ong wish to convey his appreciation to all his student for being part of his life. He is glad to be the role model to some of them. His words to his student, remember always work hard and play hard. The power to be strong and the wisdom to be wise, all these things will come to you in time.
