What is Gerak Angin? If you are wondering about the meaning of Gerak Angin, its “Move Wind” literally. Gerak Angin is the term used to describe a musical overture made by the performers of spiritual healing traditions in Kelantan, such as Mak Yong and Main Puteri. It is led by a Rebab (spiked fiddle) player to evoke spiritual energy among the musicians, dancers, space, and even the audience.

We had a chance to witness the premiere of the full Festival-trailer that featured a look at all 17 captivating performances that will greet audiences once the Gerak Angin festival begins. We were the first few who had the exclusive first-look at Gerak Angin Episode One that features a brilliant musical performance steeped in traditional Kelantanese culture by Geng Wak Long.

It was really impressive, and I’m looking forward to watching more performances via their youtube beginning of 16th September. During the Festival period, every day there will be fresh episode uploaded and made available on the Festival’s YouTube Channel - https://bit.ly/gerakangin-my and website - www.gerakangin.com. Each episode lasts between 10 to 15 minutes.

  9. I thought gerak angin means you dance with the wind. It actually a classic term and I sure miss all the mak yong tradition. We rarely see it now. This is a good approach.
