Expressing Your Creativity Through Fashion

Some people like to play it safe with fashion; they wear things that suit them and look great, but there's nothing in their outfits that really speaks for who they are. They are clothes, which while nice, could be worn by just about anyone. Other people don't really think about fashion at all. They wear whatever falls out of the wardrobe in the morning, and if they look good, it's more by accident than design. These people might see clothes shopping as a chore, and take little if any pleasure from it.

Then, there's the rest of us. The people that love to shop. That take their time to curate the perfect outfits. The people that wear clothes that speak for them; showing off their personalities and expressing their creativity. People that choose to express their creativity through fashion stand out from the crowd. They might get the occasional funny look, but they don't care. If they even notice it, they take it as a compliment.

Unfortunately, being that person doesn't always come naturally. There are plenty of us who would love to be more creative with our wardrobe, who would love to break free from their boring, sensible clothes, but feel trapped by convention. If you are eager to express yourself more with your clothes, and to be more creative with fashion, here are some tips to help.

Get a Mannequin

Sometimes, it's hard to know what works and what doesn't when you are wearing it, and second opinions certainly shouldn't be relied upon. A mannequin gives you a chance to experiment with colors, styles, and combinations. Consider investing in a high-quality mannequin from Fusion Specialties to accurately represent your body shape and size, aiding you in your creative process.

A mannequin also offers you the opportunity to go crazy and try bold designs from the comfort of your own home. You'll be more confident expressing yourself to the outside world if you've seen the outfit on a model and know that it looks great. But, be prepared for some tricky work, as there's more to dressing mannequins than you realize.

Make Your Own Clothes

Your mannequin will also come in handy if you wanted to make your own clothes. Making your own outfits is one of the best and most wonderful ways to express your creativity through fashion. When you design and make your clothing, you aren't held back, and you can really let yourself go. If you are struggling to find a creative spark, use Pinterest boards, and mood boards to collect ideas and inspiration. Think about styles you love, colors that make you happy, eras that inspire you, and elements of nature that you find beautiful. Don't just look to fashion for inspiration, look at people, animals, nature, furniture, music and anything else that you love.

Don't Put Yourself in a Bracket

Most of us are in the habit of putting ourselves into a bracket, even if we don't realize it. The school tomboy still wears athleisure outfits. The prom queens stick to pretty pastels. It's what we're used to, and what we think other people expect, and so we stick with it.

These brackets make it very hard to express your creativity or show your personality. After all, who among us is the same as they were in high school? Break out of your mold, and don't be afraid to shock.

Wear Clothes that Boost Your Mood

Always wear something that makes you smile. Even if you need to wear something smart for a specific occasion, add an accessory or pair of shoes that make you happy. Even if no one else can see it, you'll know, and you should always dress for yourself.

Don't Play by The Rules

Forget "blue and green should never be seen" and "no white after Labor Day" - wear what you want, when you want!

If you are looking to shake things up, and start wearing different things, one problem might be what other people think. If you've always dressed a certain way, you might worry about making a change, through fear of judgment, or questioning. Don't. They'll get used to it, and really, they're probably just jealous.
