coworkers frequently asking if you’re getting enough rest or if you’re okay?
The area around your eyes can be affected by lifestyle choices or health
issues, including insufficient sleep, hormonal imbalance, alcohol, smoking,
fluid retention, stress, chronic allergies, or kidney disease. But, the most
common cause of tired eyes is aging.

As we age, the
delicate skin around the eyes gradually loses elasticity. The upper eyelids
begin to droop, and the area under the eyes may look swollen or puffy. When
concealers and creams are no longer hiding your problem areas, the next step is
to have a relaxed conversation with a doctor or specialist about your goals and
concerns.
Non-Surgical
Alternatives
Some people suffering
from these issues may prefer to try Botox or injectable fillers before
considering surgery. Botox injections minimize fine lines and wrinkles caused
by squinting or smiling. Botox can also prevent horizontal lines on the
forehead and slightly elevate the eyebrows to accentuate your eyes and reduce
the appearance of fatigue. Botox typically lasts three to four months.
Injectable
fillers can fill hollows under the eyes and smooth fine lines and may last up
to six to eight months. Temporary treatments can reduce the appearance of aging
but cannot reduce excess sagging skin or provide substantial lift.
If you have the following
symptoms, non-surgical rejuvenation may not provide you with significant
benefits:
● Extra, hanging,
wrinkled skin on your upper eyelids
● Your upper eyelids
appear droopy or partially closed
● Hollows are formed
beneath your lower eyelids
● You have wrinkles,
bags, or puffy pockets of fat under your eyes
Surgical Solutions
for Tired-Looking Eyes
Eyelid surgery, also
known as blepharoplasty, can fix your tired eyes and provide you with a more
youthful and refreshed appearance. Internationally-respected facial plastic
surgeon Andrew Jacono, MD, FACS, is a Top Doctor from Long Island, NY; most
known for his amazing and natural-looking facial plastic surgery results. Every
eyelid rejuvenation journey is unique, and he recommends that you request a
customized surgery plan to better address your personal goals.
In such cases, Dr.
Jacono meets with potential eye lift patients during a private, in-depth
consultation. He completes an examination, carefully listens to his patient’s
goals and concerns, and reviews before and after photos. Photos help new
patients visualize the options available to them. He sometimes completes
eyelift surgery with another procedure, like a brow lift, cheek implants, or a
facelift, depending on the patient’s goals.
Is This The Right
Option For You?
You may be an ideal blepharoplasty candidate if you are in good health, have realistic
expectations, are a non-smoker, and are experiencing some of the following
issues:
1. You often take breaks
to close or rest your eyes. Your eyelids are heavy. After the wrinkled, heavy
skin is removed, your lids will feel free, and you will appear younger and more
rested.
2. The appearance of your
eyes affects your mental health. Many blepharoplasty patients describe an
increase in self-esteem and are happier, look more alert, enthusiastic, and
healthy.
3. Require lifting your
eyebrow to apply eyeshadow properly. If you need to lift your brows to apply
eyeliner or eyeshadow, you have extra, loose skin on your upper eyelids. Eyelid
lift surgery will remove that excess skin, and the incision will enhance your
upper eyelid crease.
What's The Eyelift
Surgery Like?
Upper eyelid surgery
involves an incision in the crease of the top lid and removes excess saggy skin
and fat. During lower eyelid surgery, an incision is created inside the lower
eyelid, the muscle is tightened, and fat is removed from below the eye.
Blepharoplasty may involve upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a
combination of both.
Eyelid lift surgery
is an outpatient procedure that typically takes about an hour to perform on the
upper or lower eyelids. The upper and lower eyelids are often treated at the
same time, which requires special instruments.
The eyelid lift recovery is typically easy, and swelling and bruising fade gradually within the
first week. Cold compresses and elevating your head will reduce swelling and encourage
healing. Gentle activities are progressively increased, and most patients are
completely recovered and look great at their one-week checkup.
Is There a
"Perfect" Age For This Eyelid Surgery?
Patients vary in age
depending on their goals and are as young as 20 or over the age of 65. The risk
for all ages is similar, and the doctor evaluates each patient to screen for
health concerns and to assess risks. Eyelid surgery removes sagging upper
eyelid skin, improves vision, and smooths bags from under the eyes.
Older
patients may combine an eyelid lift with a facelift or another cosmetic
treatment for a total makeover. However, medical history and more needs to be
discussed during a one-on-one consultation with the doctor.
