The Essential Guide to Packing Your Kitchenware for Relocation

Kitchen is often the most frequented place in a household. You could be earning in seven figures every month but that does not mean that you should be spending all your hard-earned ordering food from elsewhere. Also, it is incredibly pernicious for the state of your health. Therefore, I guess it is safe to state that your life depends on your kitchen.

Now that we have established how important the kitchen space is in any house, we need to consider a situation where you might be required to move from one place to another (and by moving, it is implied ‘relocation’). Your kitchen is a space which mostly consists of fragile utensils and delicate chinaware. Therefore, packing them up requires more effort and care than packing other stuff in your house.

Once that favourite dinner set cracks while you are in transit, you will regret that your entire life. Therefore, we thought it would be best to put together a guide on how you pack those breakable items with care and help them reach your new destination without causing any damage to them.

The Essential Packing Materials

Your relocation does not have to turn into a nightmare if you have the right packing materials at your disposal. So, we are going to go through each of the points one by one and see how the packing materials can help minimise the risk of sabotage during transit.

Get High-Quality Moving Boxes

Relocating from one place to another involves a lot of money. Therefore, people usually try to cut down on costs as much as possible. It is quite reasonable to think that cutting down on the cost of packing materials will put them in an advantageous situation when they have to shift from one place to another. But, this is a thought that you need to get rid of. You need to get the best wrapping and packing materials at hand because that is how you will be protecting your stuff.

For a standard kitchen, you shall need around 20 carton boxes which should be sufficient enough to contain all your cutlery and utensils. Besides those, you shall also need a few more packing boxes for your plates and dishes. Do not make the mistake of stuffing everything in one carton box. It is way too risky and can lead to a mess. Therefore, careful there!

Bubble Wraps Are A Must

Never underestimate the power of a bubble wrap. These tiny softies are excellent shock absorbers, and you would be fooling yourself if you thought that you could move forward with your relocation saga without the help of these.

The air-filled bubbles help protect your dishes, expensive chinaware or silverware from damages and there is no other cushion or wrapping material better than these bubble wraps. Plus, what makes it a favourite among people (apart from the fun you can have from bursting the bubbles) is that you can buy them in bulk, which minimises the total cost of purchase.

Moving Blankets

Moving blankets also serve the same use as the others mentioned in the list. It acts as a cushion to your kitchen valuables, protects them from scratches and dents and makes sure that they reach your new abode in one piece. There are stores where you can buy speciality blankets for the sole purpose of wrapping your stuff while relocating.

But you can also make use of those worn-out blankets that you no longer use, or bed sheets and curtains that you feel can serve the purpose. It is advisable that you use these discarded materials as moving blankets because they can bring down your total cost of packing and shifting dramatically. Interestingly, if you have been wondering about how to move furniture or have been worried about packing them the right way, consider using moving blankets for this purpose.

Sealing Tapes and Stickers

So now that you are effectively done with the packing part, you need to proceed towards the sealing and labelling part. All the effort you put into wrapping your kitchenware and packing them in appropriate boxes shall go down the drain if you do not use proper seals and label them with markers. Make sure that you follow basic labelling rubrics while marking the boxes. Use colourful sticky notes since they draw the attention of your movers (if you are engaging them on the job).

Write which way is ‘UP’ and explain to your movers how you would want them to be handled while moving. Most importantly, you have to be certain that you have sealed all the sides of the boxes, lest your valuables can break through the boxes and end up crashing altogether.

Moving your kitchen utensils is not similar to moving all your other belongings. Given how brittle each of those items on the kitchen shelf is, it requires much more attention and effort in wrapping them up properly and marking them adequately to make the transit easy and hassle-free.

  1. When I did my moving, I didn't bubble wrap my kitchenware. Only wrap them with lots of newspapers and used cloth to protect them
