In fashion, trends come and go every season and shoes are certainly no exception. However, a few types of shoes seem to defy the test of time and linger around for more than one season. The basic rule of thumb for buying shoes does remain the same- comfort, style and good quality.

The Trendiest Shoes: Summer 2019 Edition

With summer already here, it is time to shop for some new shoes to go with this season’s outfits. Here are some of the hottest trends right now:

Men

For men, this summer the trend is all about casual, comfy yet chic. Sneakers are the most popular casual shoes that can also be worn in semi-formal and casual functions. As you may have hinted by scrolling Instagram, high-end sneakers are especially trendy right now, so much so that they can also be found online and not only in the designer’s boutique. 

For example the e-store Luisaviaroma has a Sneakers Club program where they release a limited quantity of exclusive shoes like Gucci sneakers for men as well as many other brands. Another huge trend this year is Converse, a simple casual shoe that is basically an icon, as well as Vans that are the sneaker version of Loafers. 

Speaking of, loafers are also in style this year and the most popular are tassel, penny or horsebit. This kind of shoe is more on the classic formal side, but can be quite versatile. Last but certainly not least, are espadrilles, a shoe that has been super trendy since last summer. Espadrilles give you endless options in terms of style as they come in a variety of embroidery threading, colors and patterns- making it impossible not to find the right one. 

Women

Women have even more shoe choices for 2019. The first major trends that come to mind are sock sneakers, t-strap sandals and flip-flops. Although espadrilles wedges, white sneakers, leather slides and block heels are also very popular. White sneakers go well with a variety of casual styles from denim, leggings, jeans and cotton long pants. 

On the other hand, leather slides make a good and chic alternative to flip flops- they are comfortable and trendy for a casual weekend, relaxing after work or for a picnic. In formal occasions, block heels are definitely a thing. They are much comfortable than last year’s pointed heels and come mostly in brown hues, neutral colors or black. 

Finally, espadrille wedges are still super popular, with the most common styles including slip-ons, peep toes, closed and strapped. They can be worn with almost anything: formal dressing, long pants, maxi dress, cropped jeans… just to name a few.

How to pick the right style

If you are a man dressing up for a formal occasion, consider dark colored leather shoes such as Oxford shoes, for a semi-formal event, go with loafers of super chic sneakers. For trips and vacation time in general, sneakers, converse and ankle boots are great choices. 

For women, consider medium to high heels for strictly formal events and dinner events. If the occasion is semi-formal, like a day at the office or getting drinks after work, you can even opt for high-heeled wedges. On the other hand, go casual when running errands and a having a night out with friends- here even a (stylish) pair of slides is great.

With all of the options available, consider a shoe that can be worn with at least a few of the outfits you already have in your wardrobe. To be ready for every occasion, the best thing is to have a classic pair and then a more trending style. Overall, consider comfort but most importantly choose what you like wearing and makes you feel good.
