Review: A LI YAA Sri Lankan Cuisine x The ENTERTAINER
Are you
familiar or craving for Sri Lankan cuisine? If you like spicy food like me then
this cuisine will fit in nicely although they also have other non-spicy and
also vegetarian dishes. Recently we had dinner at A LI YAA Island Restaurant
& Bar using The Entertainer App. The restaurant is located in bustling hub
of Damansara Heights. A LI YAA is a Sri Lankan fine dining restaurant with it
being one of the largest single malt whiskey collections in Malaysia.
Review: A LI YAA Sri Lankan Cuisine x The ENTERTAINER |
A LI YAA is known for their witty and creative dishes cooked with spices. As for me Sri
Lankan curries are unlike Indian curries because they are lighter and more
heavily spiced although they might look the same. A wide range of menu from
poultry, mutton, beef, seafood, vegetables, bread, rice and Sri Lankan Crab,
A LI YAA has got it covered.

Appetizer
Sri Lankan Sambal Set |
Sri Lankan Sambal Set
I like
this addictive Sri Lankan Sambal Set appetizer, the crispy chips that come with
4 types of sambal such as Katta Sambal, Seeni Sanmab, Pol Sambal, and
Karupillay Sambal. Each of the sambal has unique taste and flavour to it. It
goes well with beer and drink too.
Main Course
String Hopper Kothu |
String
Hopper Kothu
Must Try! This is Sri
Lankan Specialty, it is prepared from strings of unprocessed rice flour dough
squeezed through a sieve into small oven trays, which are then steamed to
perfection. It like rice vermicelli but the texture is softer and fluffier. You
can choose either String Hopper Kothu Chicken or String Hopper Kothu Seafood.
Eat it with curry, yummss!
Mutton Paal Poriyal |
Mutton
Paal Poriyal
Must Try! if you are lamb
lovers. Mutton Paal Poriyal is slow-cooked tender lamb in devil aromatic
spices. For this dish, the marination and spices are bold and intense, it might
numbed your tongue. I like to eat it with Plain String Hopper and Plain Doosara
Roti compared to rice.
Jaffna Prawn Curry |
Jaffna
Prawn Curry
Jaffna
Prawn Curry spiciness is moderate and mild. The curry is perfect with rice,
string hopper and roti. Marinated prawn cooked with a blend of traditional
spices.
Fish Sothi |
Fish
Sothi
This
creamy curry with mild spiciness and taste is suitable for all even children.
Fish Sothi is cooked in coconut milk, lemongrass, garlic, shallot and curry
leaves as you savour the creamy curry.
Devilled Chicken |
Devilled
Chicken
This Devilled
Chicken spiciness is moderate and taste slightly sweet which is suitable for
most. The chicken is marinated and tossed in a stock of spice, sweet tomatoes,
sautéed onions and capsicum.
Plain String Hopper & Plain Doosara Roti |
Plain String Hopper & Plain
Doosara Roti
Plain Doosara Roti is the
pan-grilled flat bread with grated coconut, onions and mild chili. I like it
with Mutton Paal Poriyal or dipped it in Devilled Chicken gravy. Or you can eat
with Brinjol Moju and Pineapple Curry.
Sri Lankan Crab (Colombo Style) |
Sri
Lankan Crab (Colombo Style)
Must Try! This is
what we are waiting for! As you know Sri Lanka crab is very well known among
seafood lovers. Here come our Sri Lankan Crab in Colombo Style, yes it’s spicy,
intense and flavourful. For those who like spicy crab this is so syiok but for
those who can’t take that spicy you can choose Jaffna Style Crab which is
moderate spicy and taste. The Colombo style crab is my pick.
You can
choose to dine in A LI YAA’s restaurant, or in the comfort of your home or at any
of your chosen venue. A LI YAA provides attractive packages for corporate and
personal events also. Ala carte menu and set menus are available for orders.
A LI YAA
will be hosting a Jaffna Food Festival (Northern Sri Lankan Food) to celebrate
their 10 year anniversary. The event will be from October 30th to November 2nd,
2017. There will be over 100 dishes on buffet style with seating for Lunch and
