Hari Raya Light Up 2017 in Singapore

Have you visit or experience Hari Raya Light Up in Singapore before? Do you know that there are more than 900,000 LED light bulbs from Sims Avenue to Changi Road plus more than 1000 stalls at the Ramadan Bazaar. Well, this is my first time experiencing the annual Hari Raya LightUp 2017 and also visiting Geylang Serai Bazar, the largest Ramadan Bazaar in Singapore. It’s shopping fiesta under the extravaganza visual lighting. Let’s check what we did during our escape to the Lion City recently.

As you can see, the visual feast of larger-than-life light installations along the road modeled some of the traditional Malay heritage icons such as the traditional kampong house the Malay home of yesteryear. 

At Gelang Serai for Hari Raya Light Up 2017 in Singapore

A 4.4-metre tall wau (Kelantanese kite) and complemented by leaf motifs designed like songket, a traditional Malay fabric made of hand-woven patterns. This year the Hari Raya Light Up theme is “Deepening the Kampung Spirit”.

There is also a 12-metre wide kelong or offshore platform made of wood and sampan or fishing boat at the main stage area for weekly performances and movie screenings. At the same time, check out the history of Hari Raya and Geylang Serai at the temporary exhibition that feature a housing that mimics the weaves of a ketupat (rice dumpling).

Date: 20^th May to 7^th July, 2017

Sunday to Thursday from 7pm to 12midnight

Friday and Saturday from 7pm to 2am

Eve of Hari Raya Puasa on 24^th Jun from 7pm to 6am

The evening is getting more 

If you are in Singapore during this period of time and would like to explore the local Malay culture, I would recommend you to head over to Gelang Serai in the event for their Hari Raya Light Up. 

Plus this event only happens for a limited time only so do take this opportunity to experience the night scene with dazzling lights display and also the new larger-than-life Malay cultural installations. You can find many interesting food, products, clothes, festive essentials and cookies at the bazaar too.
