Yoyogi Park: Spring 2017 in Tokyo
Spring 2017
in Tokyo! Awww... look at the beautiful blooming sakura in Yoyogi Park also known as Yogogi Koen. It
is one of Tokyo's largest city parks with wide lawns, ponds and forested areas. Best thing to do at Yoyogi Park is picnic under the cherry blossom trees. Plus it's a great place for jogging, and many other outdoor activities. How
to get to Yoyogi Park by Tokyo Metro?

We were
in Tokyo back in late February, 2017 for Tokyo Marathon. That time was the transition
time from winter to spring, we were lucky that after the race we decided to
head to Yoyogi Park to get our first glimpse of sakura blooming.

The weather
was great, air was fresh and flowers started to bloom, it’s the sign of
Spring. We had a mini picnic with some running kakis at the park in the morning the next day after the race. Had my little sakura treats too.

Well, I wish to spend the whole day at the park but we had to go to Shibuya for lunch and did our last minute shopping at Tokyo Station before flying back to Kuala Lumpur.

How to
get to Yoyogi Park by Tokyo Metro?
There is
no hassle at all moving around Tokyo using the comprehensive Tokyo Metro. The
best way to get to Yoyogi Park is to take the JR Yamanote line train to
Harajuku station. At the station exit take a right and walk about 200 meters, you
will see the entrance to the park on your right. It is located next to Meiji
Shrine. Admission is free.
End of February is the transition time from winter to spring so certain areas still look like winter without snow |
Before
becoming a city park in 1967, the area where Yoyogi Park is located served as
the site of the Olympic Village for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and before that, as a residential area for US military personnel.
