Kampung Baru is a Malay enclave in central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You can still find traditional wooden kampung houses with KLCC and KL Tower at the background. Kampung Baru's elders have turned developers away, saying they want to preserve their ethnic Malay lifestyle.

Besides, the old preserved houses there are many restaurants, stalls and shops selling Malay food and groceries. Every Saturday night there is Pasar Malam (night market) and during ramadhan month, Bazaar Ramadhan in Kampung Baru is one of the busiest in town. Best way to go to Kampung Baru via Putra LRT, get down at Kampung Baru Station.

Chinatown, Petaling Street

Chinatown, Petaling Street is usually crowded with locals as well as tourists. There are many stalls and shops selling goods and food. You can find most chinese food and local favourites such as hokkien mee, porridge, ikan bakar (barbecued fish), asam laksa and curry noodles. If you go in the morning, there is a wet market tucked in one of the back lane.

You can also Chinese and seafood restaurants plus stalls selling all kinds of street food and snacks along the street, resulting in an interesting mixture of aroma filling the air that is quite hard to resist. Most of the stalls open until quite late at night. You can also get to Chinatown, Petaling Street via Putra LRT, get down at Pasar Seni or Masjid Jamek station.

Brickfields is Malaysia’s Little India, that is the place where I usually go for my banana leaf rice and also hunt for saris when I have to get one for wedding or theme event. There are many Indian stores and restaurants. You can find shops sell everything from traditional Indian goods such as saris, flower garlands, spices, and Bollywood music, to local delicacies such as vadai, thosai and more besides food. Brickfields is within walking distance about 10 minutes from KL Sentral Station Putra LRT.
