Over the weekend, we had a hearty lunch at Chun Ciou Hot Pot the newly opened hot pot buffet restaurant located
along Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur. This is not any ordinary hot pot or steamboat
buffet, it is the 1st authentic
Taiwanese imperial served-to-table hot pot buffet in Malaysia. Most of the
ingredients are directly imported from Taiwan and also the soup base including the balls and meats.

Served-To-Table Hot Pot Buffet in Malaysia
|
Chun Ciou Hot Pot is a sub brand created under Taiwan Chien-Yen Group
in the year of 2014, and their main specialty is All-You-Can-Eat Sukiyaki. However,
Chun Ciou Hot Pot Malaysia is just newly opened in Malaysia and they had their
soft launch in December 2016. The meaning of Chun Ciou is Spring and Autumn Period, therefore
the restaurant owner strive to offer their guests the most refreshing dinning
environment and experience.
Chun Ciou Hot Pot |
Let’s eat!
The most important is the soup base, there are 6 types of soup
bases available ~ Sukiyaki Soup, Lakesalt Soup, Tonkatsu Soup, Spicy Soup,
Herbal Soup, Tonyam Soup. We tried the Sukiyaki Soup, Lakesalt Soup which are
the signatures and also the most popular soup base.
Sukiyaki Soup and Lakesalt Soup base |
The Sukiyaki Soup and Lakesalt Soup base favour is just right to my
taste and liking. It’s not too heavy or salty yet when it boiled with the fresh
meats, balls, vegetables and others it brings out the original taste.
The thinly sliced imported premium meat |
Here comes the thinly sliced specially selected imported premium meat
such as Australian strip loin, Australian rib eye, lamb shoulder roll, pork belly,
pork shoulder, pork neck, chicken fillet and duck roll.
Special mua chee ball with black sesame inside from Taiwan |
At Chun Ciou Hot Pot you can find quite a variety of balls that
directly import from Taiwan such as wasabi ball, spicy fish ball, cheese fish
tofu ball, premium cuttle fish ball (in black), taro fish ball, sincere ball, premium
prawn ball, red heart ball, mushroom fish ball, pork tendon ball, ham ball,
fish and squid mixture ball, white fish ball, handmade meat ball plus other
steamboat ingredients such as hot sesame bun, abalone slice, special tofu, tamago
and mua chee ball with black sesame inside. I like the wasabi and spicy fish balls that give a bit of kicks.
Variety of sauces and condiments |
Look there are variety of sauces and condiments that we can create
our own for dipping such as that chilli sauce, fruit sauce, satay paste, soy
sauce, sesame sauce, bean curd sauce, sha cha sauce, spring onion, parsley,
garlic and also chopped chilli.
DIY signature golden egg yolk suki yaki sauce |
Here are the 4 steps to customize your Signature sauces. That is
the recipe of golden egg yolk suki yaki sauce.
1. Add sesame sauce
2. Add 1 egg yolk
3. Add chopped shallots and spring onions
4. Add a dash of shichimi to spice up the sauce
Mixed all these ingredients together and it’s ready to dip. This
sauce can enhance the texture and juiciness of the fresh-cooked meat while
making the temperature just nice to stimulate your taste buds at the same time bringing
down that hot pot heat. Yummmsss…
Taiwanese braised pork rice |
Alright last but not least, are the vegetables available for the
hot pot such as pumpkin, cabbage, tomato, carrot, chinese yam, sweet potato,
cucumber, chinese fungus, bok choy, spinach, white carrot, mushroom, abalone
mushroom, golden mushroom and eggplant. Plus the side dishes such as udon noodles, dong fen, spinach
noodles, beancurd skin, toufu puff, fried bread stick and braised pork rice.
Plus the side dishes such as udon noodles, dong fen, spinach
noodles, beancurd skin, toufu puff, fried bread stick and braised pork rice. As for desserts they served red bean
soup, ice cream and sweet lemon slice.
Chun Ciou Hot Pot Restaurant Ambience |
Overall it was a satisfying dining experience with good soup
bases, premium selections of meats, decent steamboat ingredients and good
customer service combined with very cozy dining atmosphere.
As I walked into the 2 storey restaurant I feel very cozy and
comfortable for dining and also discussion; especially the high ceiling, spaciousness,
the elegant dining atmosphere and heroic décor with abundant Chinese historic
elements.
You can find raw brick walls, wooden furniture, separate and
private spaces with antique window-screens, creative lights, big red lanterns,
terra-cotta army replicas. This is perfect harmony between luxury and modesty.
