Switch Up Your Diet for a Glowing Complexion

What to include
The three best things you can do for your skin is to stay hydrated, ensure you are getting all the nutrients you need and that you are getting a decent amount of sleep. A great way to ensure you are getting all of the vitamins and minerals you need is to invest in some of Blackmores healthproducts from Mr Vitamins.

The first food that can really boost your skin's natural glow is dark chocolate! A couple of squares of 70% cocoa chocolate a day can give you the antioxidant boost that your skin craves. Some other skin super foods are yogurt pomegranate, walnuts, sunflower seeds and soy. For a more extensive list checkout this link.

What to avoid
The main things to steer clear of are sugars, salts and nuts, especially peanuts. Sugar is something most of us unknowingly eat to excess on a daily basis, and while natural sugars in fruit are fine, try to avoid food that is overly processed as it is more likely to contain high amounts of sugar.

Excessive amounts of salts should be avoided because     salts absorb water, and mean that you retain water inside your cells and digestive tract rather than it getting to your skin where it needs to be. Nuts are oily and fatty, and while a little of these fats and oils are great for us, we all know what excessive oil does to our skin….

When cooking it is best to keep things as nutrient rich as possible and when cooking in oil, use coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil where possible.

Food You Could Put on Your Body
Many of the things we keep in the cupboards are actually just as great for putting on our skin as they are for eating. Coconut oil is one such miracle product. You can use it as a moisturiser for both your skin and your hair to boost natural softness and to keep you looking hydrated and well.

Another key to keeping your skin its best is to exfoliate often, and you don’t need to use soaps which can dry out the skin, or expensive products you find at the store you can make up a cleansing sugar scrub right now for free.

Simply go to your kitchen cabinet and grab the following:
• 1 cup sugar
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 2/3 cup coconut oil
• 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 tsp allspice
• 1/2 tsp ginger
• 1/2 tsp nutmeg

What you then want to do is simply combine all of your dry ingredients and the vanilla extract, once combined slowly add the oil until it’s a consistency you like (this may require more or less coconut oil than the recipe states). Then you just need to find a container or jar you want to keep it in.

Some people like to substitute in a little honey instead of all the oil because honey has some natural antiseptic abilities. Then you can simply rub the mixture on areas that you feel are dry of need exfoliating.

If you have sensitive skin I would advise you keep this away from your face, as sugar can react badly and cause some redness. Always do a spot test first if you aren't sure and wait a day or so to see how your skin reacts.

Now you know a little more about your skin,  go try it our and you will be glowing and hydrated in no time at all. Enjoy your weekend...
