Recently we explored one of the uninhabited islands in the South Sulawesi. Kodingareng Keke Island in Makasar is beautiful little gem island with crystal clear water, white sandy beaches and no one lives there. It is a small island that extends from the northeast to the southwest. The total area of the island is one hectare and you can easily walk around the whole island. It takes about 40 minutes ferry ride from the city of Makassar, Bangkao Wooden Jetty to the island.

We took the ferry from Bangkao Wooden Jetty to the island at about 830 in the morning. When we arrived at the dock of Kodingareng Keke Island I can’t believe my eyes, the water is so crystal clear and blue. The view of the whole island is spectacular. The best time to visit this island is from the month of June to September, where you get the best weather.

There is no building and only one gazebo where we can rest in the whole island. It’s 3 storey high, so we went to the 1^st floor to took photos, left our bags there and had a bit if snacks before exploring the beach, snorkeling, swimming and etc.

There are 2 toilets and a small stall selling food and snacks on the ground floor or the gazebo. Its better you pack your own food, snacks and drinks especially drinking water from Makassar city before heading to Kodingareng Keke Island.

The beautiful unspoiled and uninhibited Kodingareng Keke Island

We strolled around the island and take lots of beautiful shots as the weather was good and sunny on that day. There are some pine trees at certain corner for you to get some shades and take a rest.

We also rent a boat and snorkeling gears to go to the middle of the sea for snorkeling. I almost immersed in the beauty of underwater world, the corals reef were so clear and colourful. There were some small fishes swimming around. It’s was so natural and unspoiled nature.

Yes! It is worth to visit Kodingareng Keke Island when you are in Makassar. It’s a beautiful unspoiled and uninhibited island. The water and the white sandy beaches are truly breathtaking.

Travel Tips to Kodingareng Keke Island, Makasar

Some Travel Tips to Kodingareng Keke Island, Makasar:

Get there as early as possible, the earlier the better. If you are early there will be less people so you have the island to yourself or take better photos.

1. Bring your own food and drinks especially drinking water.
2. Bring your own mate if you want to have a mini picnic or lie under the pine trees.
3. Remember to bring your sunblock, shades, hats and swimsuit.
4. Bring your own snorkeling gear (if you have) if not you can rent it at Samalona Island. Get a few friends to share a boat and go for snorkeling. The underwater view is absolutely spectacular.
5. Don’t forgot to bring your own garbage bag, there are limited places for you to throw your rubbish so don’t litter in this beautiful island.
6. The best time to visit this island is from the month of June to September.

How to get to Kodingareng Keke Island, Makasar

How to get to Kodingareng Keke Island, Makasar:

Makassar is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes flight from Jakarta. To go to the Kodingareng Keke Island from Makassar city centre you can take the ferry from the nearest dock or pier at Bangkao Wooden Jetty, which located in front of Castle Fort Rotterdam. The ferry ride takes about 40 minutes to reach the island.

Or you can rent a motorboat about 500 thousand Rupiah at one of the docks to get to the island in about 40 to 60 minutes depending on the weather. One motorboat can accommodate about 8 to 10 people.
