‘Before anyone did anything, EVISU did everything’ is EVISU’s tagline, the quirky and cool Japanese denim founded by jeans connoisseur Hidehiko Yamane in 1991. It’s no surprise then that EVISU Eye, the brand’s eyewear counterpart echoes this philosophy with a Spring Summer 2016 collection that has critics already predicting cult status. EVISU Rocks!

The evening started with Rapper Kayda rock the stage and then followed by the showcase. Admirers of the Osaka brand will be familiar with its seagull logo, and the eyewear collection harnesses their garment expertise by 3D printing the trademark emblem onto the denim-textured temples of the acetate frames.

These handmade frames run the whole gamut of sumptuous shades, whether in metal, acetate, or baked enamel – evoking Evisu’s penchant for craftsmanship, style, and fun.

After the fashion show, we managed to take a closer look and also try out some of the sunglasses and frames. Bold, dark, frames with colored lenses of blue and gold stand out from the pack as leaders in the mod squad. While the acetate half-frame reading glasses makes a strong case for chic, but the highlight of the collection is undoubtedly the one-piece lens sunglasses.

Created from a singular piece of mirror-coated lens, the retro-inspired shape is all at once innovative and minimalist, a work of art that will start conversations, while proclaiming its wearer as an avant-garde trendsetter.

Whether it’s taking Harry Potter glasses as muse, a strong cat eye, or the more traditional aviator, EVISU Eye cleverly combines the unusual and the familiar, forming a stand-out collection that will have both the devoted fan and the casual observer clamoring for more.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in November this year, EVISU has come a long way from the days of Yamana-san individually hand-painting the limited production of 14 jeans a day, but its fans has continued to lust over the denims that straddle the worlds between trendy and traditional, authentic and fun.
