Beauty Tips: Taking Care of Your Skin in Winter

Taking care of your skin during the winter season may seem like an impossible undertaking. The cold temperatures and piercing winds can cause your skin to look less than its best. That's why it's more important than ever to use appropriate skincare products, which you can get in affordable prices when you use discountrue.com coupon codes available for a wide variety of shops such as Neiman Marcus or L'Occitane. Other than that, there are several tips that you may not be aware of but are crucial to keep in mind during the cold weather months. Read on to learn more...

Beauty Tips: Taking Care of Your Skin in Winter

1. Increase Your Moisturizing
Moisturizing is always crucial, but it is especially important during prolonged periods of cold and inclement weather. While you may already have a moisturizing regimen that works well during the spring and summer months, you'll need to amend this strategy to account for the cold. Alter your skin care routine by switching to moisturizer that is oil based, instead of water based. The oil serves as your protective barrier and retains far more moisture than most lotions and creams.

2. Use Sun Protection
This tip may seem counterproductive to some. Why would you ever want to use sun protection during the coldest time of the year? The answer is simple: winter sun can be just as dangerous as the UV rays of summer, especially as far as your skin is concerned. If your skin is experiencing exposure to winter sun on a consistent basis, use a broad spectrum sunscreen before heading outside for best results. Those who are outside frequently should reapply as necessary.

3. Don't Wear Wet Clothing Items
Wet clothing items, such as socks and gloves, can cause a variety of different skin related maladies that are tough to shake and will persist for months to come. Keeping wet socks and gloves on for too long can cause the skin to crack, itch and even peel. Sores can also develop, and wet clothing items are a common cause for eczema outbreaks, so be sure to remain careful.

4. Pay Attention To Your Tootsies
The feet are going to need a bit of extra tender, loving care once those temperatures outside start to dwindle. The foot lotions that you are accustomed to rocking during the summer are not going to cut it, though. Instead of turning to your usual minty lotions, grab one that contains glycerin or petroleum jelly. Exfoliate the feet regularly to remove dead skin, as this allows the moisturizers to work at a more rapid pace.

5. Avoid Hot Baths and Showers
A long, hot bath or shower after a day spent out in the cold feels great, but in reality, it breaks down the skin's lipid barriers and leads to a loss of moisture. Use moderately warm water during your baths and showers and don't stay in for too long.

  9. I learned my lesson the worst way. A very cold vacation in HK with no moisturizing lotion so long ago that gave me itchy dry leg skin that still attacks occasionally up to now. Good to learn now about the bad effects of a warm shower.
