Here for my short breakaway from the hustle bustle of my daily life for this challenge. Hey still remembered we were at Pangkor Laut Resort for Chapman's Challenge exclusive preview event few weeks ago? It was one of my incredible experiences this year with exquisite resort, excellent service, exciting friends and of course the enliven Chapman's Challenge.
Chapman's Challenge @ Pangkor Laut Resort |
Perhaps you are still wondering what is Chapman's Challenge all about? By the way who is Chapman? But most important question is, are you ready for this challenge?
The Sea Villas @ Pangkor Laut Resort |
In the nutshell, the Chapman’s Challenge comprises of a 6.2km run around the private island roadways and hike through the two million year old rainforest plus 1km swim out at the award-winning Emerald Bay before concluding at Chapman’s Bar. I have been there and done that, so you can do it too, right!
Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman, British commando who made his last escape from Emerald Bay in 1945 |
The prestigious Pangkor Laut Resort has crafted a unique experience called The Chapman’s Challenge to honour the same belief in which Colonel Freddy Spencer Chapman, a British commando who made his last escape from Emerald Bay in 1945, lived his life.
Colonel Spencer Chapman spent 3½ years in hiding from the occupying Japanese army during World War II in the wild jungles of Malaya. On 13 May 1945, he made his last escape from Emerald Bay at Pangkor Laut with his compatriot, Major R. Broome. They swam 45m out to sea in the dark of night to be rescued by the Royal Navy submarine, HMS Statesman.

We together with a selected group of triathletes and guests were invited to participate in The Chapman’s Challenge through an exclusive preview event.

We arrived at Pangkor Laut Resort just in time for lunch and then check into our respective villas. Gosh! I have the whole Hill Villa to myself, they said it’s good feng shui. Sit on the hill hillside amidst the rainforest and overlooking the magnificent sea view. I must admit that I can get use to this large open roof indoor bathtub that open out to the rainforest. Had my me time soaking and pampered myself for 2 nights.
Day 1 familiarize the jungle trail route |
Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese Dinner at Uncle Lim’s Kitchen |
The first day we have a trial run and familiarize with the route for the challenge. Then end the night with Nyonya and Hockchew Chinese style home cooking dinner at Uncle Lim’s Kitchen.

Enjoy the spectacular sight and sound of the rainforest |
Off we go! run, hike and swim at the same time enjoy the spectacular sight and sound of the rainforest and sea at Pangkor Laut Resort.
Completed the challenge! |
We completed the challenge and finishing point is at the Emerald Bay. We collected our finisher T-shirt with our name stitched on it. Then rest and enjoy the sea breeze while sipping the fresh coconut juice followed by buffet lunch was served at the Chapman’s Bar.
Bath House Ritual @ the Spa Village |
After the challenge my body was soaring and really need a massage. Bingo!!! its like heaven when we were at the Spa Village for our Signature Spa experience. It was a wonderful time at the Bath House Ritual together with some of the girls going through the foot spa and Chinese foot pounding then the 4 types of baths – Malay circulating bath, Japanese bath with goshi-goshi cloth, Rotenburu pool and Shanghai scrub. After all the bath and scrubbing, our body is ready for a massage. Ahhh… so blissful, I miss it so much and I want to go back again.
Pre dinner cocktail & Beach Barbeque Dinner at Emerald Bay |
After that we head back to our villas to change and dress-up for the night. We had our pre-dinner cocktail at the Chapman’s Bar and then followed by Beach BBQ Dinner at the Emerald Bay.
Emerald Bay, Pangkor Laut Resort |
Feel the breeze blowing and the serenity surrounding of the enchanting island while enjoy the scrumptious BBQ dinner under the moonlight; chats and took lots of photos at the photo booth. It was such a delighting and memorable way to end night.
