Finally I am back after 3 days of silence, well it has been a
busy week for me with work and also KL Fashion Week. And the after work traffic is getting into my nerves arghhh... Anyway put that aside, so today I am going to kick start with some healthy, hearty
and wholesome meal to cheer me up and keep me going. I need energy! What should I eat? Perhaps some sandwiches and
salad… well last weekend I create my own sandwich at O’Briens Irish Sandwich
Cafe, Publika Solaris Dutamas.

Have you visit O’Briens Irish Sandwich Café before? Well apart
from those fresh and healthy sandwiches they also have salads, soups, wrappos, freshly
squeezed juices, refreshing smoothies, gourmet coffees, cakes, Irish snacks and
outside catering platters. It is a lifestyle chain cafe founded in 1988 by
Brody Sweeny in Dublin, Ireland and has since expanded to over 200 stores
worldwide and now they have 21 outlets in Malaysia.
Ehem... Sunshine Kelly reporting at work hehehe... |
Ok back to my sandwich making session, it’s quite simple just 3
steps. First step is to choose the bread. Well their breads are baked with
specially formulated Irish recipe. There are white bread, wholemeal bread, ciabatta,
multigrain, wrappo, wholemeal shamboo and focaccia shambo in the shape of the
Shamrock. The Shamrock is the epitome of Ireland and represents good luck thus
it is closely associate to O’Briens.
I love the aroma of freshly baked bread and decided on the focaccia shambo.
Feel like eating the bread it on its own but with fillings, salads and sauces will
definitely heighten then appetite. The next step is to choose the filling hmm…
I am spoil of choices.
The fillings, salads and sauces |
These are the main fillings to choose from egg, egg
mayo, chicken, chicken mayo, chicken slice, chicken crisp, chicken sausage,
mild spicy herbs, volcanic chicken, piri-piri chicken, turkey, beef, tuna, tuna
mayo, smoke salmon, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, mozzarella cheese, brie cheese,
feta cheese and parmesan cheese.
These are many types of salads and sauces to choose from such as peppers,
onion, sweetcorn, black olives, croutons, pine nut, walnut, tomato, cucumber, lettuce,
lollo rosa, lollo bionda, watercress, sundried, roasted brinjal, zucchini and coleslaw.
The sauces available includes basil pesto, cream cheese, honey mustard, aran island,
ballymaloe, ceasar dressing, italian, cranberry, guacamole and houmous.
My choice of bread, fillings, salads and cheese |
Here are my choices I like smoke salmon, chicken slice, swiss
cheese and for salad are roasted zucchini, lettuce, mixed peppers. Basil pesto is my favourite sauce.
Let's start to create my own sandwich |
After choosing all the ingredients let's start. First cut the bread into half, spread the basil pesto on 1 side, arranged
the fillings and salad layer by layer and lastly topped with the cheese make
sure it covers all the sides of the bread. Then toast it in the oven for 50 seconds to melt the cheese. Then cut into half.
My sandwich creation |
Tadah it’s done! All the ingredients are fresh and I can now enjoy
my own sandwich creation with a cup of latte. Aummm… best and healthy meal for
any time of the day. So do you like sandwich?

ReplyDeleteNice! I love restaurants that let you create your own food, especially pizzas and sandwiches. This is great! an the sandwich you created looks really good.
ReplyDeleteYour own sandwich sounds healthy but yummy! I'd love to make mine with feta cheese, mozzarella cheese, tuna and some greens!
ReplyDeleteWow, it's nice that you can create your own bread and choose the fillings. If given a choice, I would get only the basic ones and not too many ingredients. Smoked salmon and Swiss cheese are enough for my sandwich. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to enjoy this store. It should be challenging to mix and match which among the different ingredients there would taste good together. Some may be tempting to mix up but not taste good at all.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an Irish Cafe before and I love the filling and salad options they offer their clientele. Hope I can dine at O'Briens someday, looks like you had fun Kelly!
ReplyDeleteIt was a great experience! I want to try too but too bad I didn't get the invitation~ =(
ReplyDeleteCompared to burgers, I prefer to eat a sandwich with lots of mayonnaise, cheese and lettuce.
ReplyDeleteI would really love to try the salad bar. Those choices are simply irresistible. In addition, the place looks really cool and neat so I wouldn't be surprised if customers come flocking in anytime of the day.
ReplyDeletewe have o briens here too but I've nv tried them out. they came across to me as a pricey subway. haha! I might try them out the next time I pass by one.
ReplyDeleteVery nice place. The ingredients look healthy too. Health buff and people like me who are getting on the fitness track will enjoy this place, as well as food lovers.
ReplyDeleteThis totally got me craving for a nice big sandwich!! The one you made looks so yummy! :D
ReplyDeleteI used to eat sometime from o'brien during office lunch hours and they had one super nice veg cheese sandwich which was too awesome. Love their presentation with some chips and drink.
ReplyDeleteIf you were the crew, I would take a lot of time to prepare my sandwich. I like the idea of creating your own sandwich though.
ReplyDeleteWho does not love the smell of freshly baked bread. I am a big baker!
ReplyDeleteHi Ms O'Briens... I like you look with the cap and the apron! So pwetty~ It's nice making your own sandwich and have them afterwards~
ReplyDeleteI used to love O'Briens... years ago when they were the onoy decent sandwich place in town where I worked. Over the years more and more salads + sandwich shops have come onto the scene. - now i can't remember when I last had an O'briens' sandwich...
ReplyDeleteyour sandwich looks delicious. Preparing your own sandwich is a good concept and I really love to try making my own.
ReplyDeleteA lot of establishments are now offering this kind of service: make-your-own stuff. It gives the customers the chance to customize according to their preferences and they also get to know how to make stuff on their own. They're also able to appreciate each and every ingredient in the product.
