An Italian & Japanese Culinary Affair @ Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

Italian & Japanese culinary affair, Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL, Frescobaldi wine, Japanese Sake, Chef Kamaruddin,

Last week, I had a special Italian & Japanese culinary affair at Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. Well, it was 5 course menu, a true East meets West dining experience paired with Frescobaldi wine and Japanese Sake just to enhance that smooth tastes as you take in all the flavours.

An Italian & Japanese Culinary Affair

Danzante Prosecco

The risotto roll Sakura Denbu and glazed with whisky. It is light but slight chalky. The Danzante Prosecco, sparkling wine made in the extra dry style. Light, crisp for a start and balanced when paired with food.

Tuna tartar layered, crispy salami, gari shoga, frisee, glazed teriyaki, Italian & Japanese culinary affair, Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL, Frescobaldi wine, Japanese Sake, Chef Kamaruddin,

Appetizer

Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco Doc, 2013

The tuna tartar is light, moist and creamy however the salami is not crispy enough paired with Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco Doc, 2013 a soft, mellow and not too acidic chardonnay ideal with fresh light seafood dishes.

Mirin chicken broth, sansai, potato tortellini, Italian & Japanese culinary affair, Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL, Frescobaldi wine, Japanese Sake, Chef Kamaruddin,

Echigozakura Nihonshu and Chitosetsuru Tanrei

Light clear soup with potato tortellini is slightly heavy taste for me (salty) when eat alone but when paired with Chitosetsuru Tanrei and Echigozakura Nihonshu sweet dry sake it just balanced up plus the potato tortellini became more satisfying with a hint of sweetness.

The garoupa fillet it’s fresh and cooked just right, flavourful. I don’t mind having more seared moist polenta with ebiko; paired with Frecobaldi CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 2008 clear ruby red wine with floral notes. This red wine goes well with steak and also fish. It’s a pretty versatile and light red wine.

Mitarashi kushi dango, rich ricotta mousse, sable crumble, berries compote, Italian & Japanese culinary affair, Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL, Frescobaldi wine, Japanese Sake, Chef Kamaruddin,

Dessert

Suntory Kakubin

I would love mitarashi kushi dango or known as glutinous rice ball to have some light filling. The  3 glutinous rice balls it’s slightly too heavy for 5 course menu, the berry compote balanced out the heavy mitarashi kushi dango, paired with the premium Japanese whisky, Suntory Kakubin.

Danzante Prosecco, Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco Doc, 2013, Echigozakura Nihonshu, Chitosetsuru Tanrei, Italian & Japanese culinary affair, Vila Danieli, Sheraton Imperial KL, Frescobaldi wine, Japanese Sake

Basically these are the 5 course menu for An Italian & Japanese Culinary Affair. The most memorable dish is the appetizer tuna tartar layered with crispy salami, gari shoga, frisee and glazed teriyaki paired with Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco Doc, 2013 chardonnay. The whole combination just blends in so perfectly.

  1. What a mouth watering meal this must have been! From the plating, which certainly starts the meal off on the right foot, to the exceptional dishes and amazing wine just complete it. I'd be going back for sure.;-)

  2. Wow! The plating of the meals were beautifully done! However, to me, this looks like luxurious fine dine-in meals. Living in a country that eats rice 3 times a day, I don't think I'd survive eating just these for a date. Haha!

Nevertheless, the foods looks good and delicious!

  3. Wow, a five course meal, now that's what I'm talking about. I've always said that food has to be paired with wine but it's not that normal yet in the Philippine culinary scene. Plus being a mom of toddlers, I'm off alcohol for a couple of years at the very least. Are those bonito flakes I see on top of the risotto roll you had as an amuse? :)

  4. Wow! Your post had me craving! I've always loved Italian and Japanese cuisine. It's intriguing how they combined both to come up with this 5-course dinner. My bf and I would love to try this, if only I were in KL! >.<
