Slurp! Nothing
beats a hearty bowl hot soupy udon on a raining day. Well, as we know udon is one
of the popular noodles in Japan. It’s thick, chewy, smooth and satisfying plus
its healthier choice. Recently, I tried the Kodowari Menya Udon & Tempura
at 1 Mont Kiara with my friends. This is one of the the latest Udon &
Tempura restaurants in Kuala Lumpur. It’s like the authentic Sanuki Udon from
Kagawa, Japan.
There
are a few unique concepts and ingredients at Kodowari Menya Udon & Tempura.
They incorporate the self-service concept just like in Japan. Whereby, we order
our udon; choose our tempura, oden and beverages; pay at the cashier counter;
collect and choose our own condiments.
Kitchen, Order, Cashier Counter & Return Counter |
After our meal we clear our own table
and return the dishes at the Return counter. I think this is a cool concept,
that we learn how to tidy up our own mess after eating.
The
udon are freshly make at the restaurant everyday and they use a special ingredient
called ‘Rare Sugar’ to replace the refined sugar in their udon. Rare Sugar is
unique because it contains zero calories but maintains 70% the sweetness of
regular sugar, thus helping to prevent blood sugar rise after meals and fat
build-up. Plus they also have ‘Rare Sugar Soy Sauce’ contains zero calories but
maintains 98% the sweetness of regular sugar.
Let’s Eat @ Kodowari Menya, 1Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur |
Let’s Eat! We ordered a few types of Udon, Tempura and Oden
Kake
Udon RM12.90 (regular) / RM10.90 (small)
|
Above is the Kake
Udon that I had during their grand launch event. Kake Udon is the plain udon in clear broth. It is very basic, mild taste and good to eat with chicken tempura. This allow us to savour the real taste and texture of the udon.
Curry Udon RM16.90 (regular) / RM14.90 (small) |
Curry Udon is my fovourite among all the udon. The broth is very thick with lots of potatoes and carrots. Strong flavour, aroma and spicy. As spicy food lover, I find this curry udon very appetizing for me.
Niku
Udon (Beef) RM16.90 (regular) / RM14.90 (small)
|
Niku
Udon, udon with beef sliced in clear broth. This is their best seller. According to my friend, she like the broth and the thin sliced of soft juicy beef.
Bukkake
Udon (Hot/Cold) RM12.90 (regular) / RM10.90 (small)
|
Wakame
Udon RM14.90 (regular) RM12.90 (small)
|
Zaru
Udon RM12.90 (regular) / RM10.90 (small)
|
Chicken Tempura RM3.50 Portion is moderate for 1 person, fragrant, crispy, sligh;ly spicy and quite flavourful |
Assorted Tempura |
Ebi
(Prawn) Tempura RM4.00
Nasubi
(Egg Plant) RM2.00
Satsusaimo
(Sweet Potato) RM2.00
Renkon
(Lotus Root) RM2.00
Kakaige
(Mixed Vegetables) RM2.00
Korokke
(Croquette) RM2.00
Shitake
(Mushroom) RM2.00
Kabocha
(Pumpkin) RM2.00
The tempura batter is quite light and I would say that is moderate to my liking. However, the price for the chicken tempura is quite reasonable. The Ebi Temoura is my favourite.
Assorted Oden: Tofu RM2.00, Black Yam Pudding RM3.00, Tamago (Egg) RM2.00, Konbu (Seaweed) RM3.00 & Daikon (Raddish) RM1.50 |
Free Flow Condiments
|
Green Tea Ice Cream / Black Sesame Ice Cream RM7.90 |
Our desserts are Green Tea Ice Cream and Black Sesame Ice Cream RM7.90 each. I prefer the black sesame ice cream because it has richer taste and stronger aroma.
Overall, I find that the pricing is quite reasonable for the quality of food, portion and location. You can have a regular bowl of udon with a 1 tempura chicken and 1 tempura vegetable plus 1 green tea at about RM20 in Mont Kiara shopping mall is consider value for money. Food wise, overall the taste is mild except the curry udon is strong and spicy. I like their udon springy texture.
