Taste of Okayama, Japan - Food, Fruits & Tourism

Last Friday I attended the Food & Tourism Seminar by Okayama Prefecture at Iketeru Japanese Restaurant @ Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Okayama is one of the agriculture and fisheries prefecture in Japan. It is famous for its white peach and grapes that grows in the mountain.

Okayama White Peach, Pione & Muscat Grapes

Okayama Yume Hakutou / Okayama White Peach is sweet, fragrant, juicy and less acidic. 1 is not enough for me, I think I need more hehehe I love the ripe white peach the scent is so fresh and tempting not to mention the plumpness and sweetness.

Shine Muscat, Seto Giants & Pione Grapes

There are 3 types of Okayama grapes that I tried that day – the Shine Muscat, Seto Giants & Pione (black grapes). The one that I love most is the Seto Giants. Its bigger, sweet and juicier without seed.

Okayama Fresh yster

The Okayama Oyster by itself eat it raw with a dash of lemon juice its perfect. Is it very fresh and plump, as you can the the Oysters is curving up and shining. Slurpp…

Okayama Chirashi-Sushi

Okayama Chirashi-Sushi is one of the favourite local dish that served in a bowl with Asahi Rice on the base, shredded egg omelet, assorted raw seafood and also fresh vegetable with some lime juice. I like the whole combination, it is very colourful, simple yet delicious. 

Of course all the Japanese food are healthy and less oil, less fat and most of the ingredients are raw and fresh without much dressing or sauce.

Besides, Okayama's most famous attraction is Korakuen Garden, which is ranked as one of the three best landscape gardens in Japan, along with Kanazawa's Kenrokuen and Mito's Kairakuen. Okayama Castle is located just across from the garden. Okayama serves as the locale for the popular fairy tale of Momotaro (the Peach Boy).

Overall, I think Okayama is an agriculture prefecture, we can find plenty of fresh seafood and vegetables. Okayama is not a commercial prefecture so most of its cities still preserve their nature well and have a breath taking scenery of village, mountain, gardens and seas.
