Hello
Summer! I need a pair of edgy, stylish and sophisticated sunglasses that can vogue my looks.
Oh it must be light and flexible so that I don’t feel the burden on my nose
bridge wearing all day. Finally I met ic! berlin MIDO 2014 U-Bahn
Collection. This collection conceptualize east meets west; underground meets
mainstream; day meets night meets day. Berlin is a hybrid city where everything
is possible and anything goes baby… I wish I am in Berlin now!
with Jimmy Ong at Derrick Hoo at Coffea Coffee, Bangsar |
I had a
quick chat with Derrick Hoo, Executive Director of Eyewear Creations (M) Sdn
Bhd and Jimmy Ong, PR Creative Consultancy over coffee to understand the insight and
uniqueness about ic! Berlin. It caters for a very niche market that knows about
the beauty and functionality of the clip-on hinge system.
ic! berlin clip-on hinge system |
ic! berlin offers a

The eyewear inspired
by the Berlin Metro, from the repurposed war-era airport at Templehof, to the
centuries old architecture in Mitte and the über cool street art and cafes of
Kreuzberg and Neukölln. Get your Tageskarte, hop on your bike, and see the
Berlin that we see.
Mathias Bothor cracks down on ic! Berlin |
Drawing
on this hybrid sunglasses, Mathias Bothor has created a lookbook styled after
the vampire hit of the Cannes Film Festival Only Lovers Left Alive. Ethereal,
gothic, urban and romantic, Bothor’s lookbook stars friends and family of ic! berlin
in a story of fusion and genesis as subculture enters the mainstream.

ic! Berlin S3 Rummelsburg |
S3 Rummelsburg - RM1,580
Summer
in Berlin is all about open airs. After 6 months of winter it’s no wonder. Open
air parties and concerts heave with people taking advantage of the long days and
even longer nights. Take the S3 out to Rummelsburg, then the 21 Tram, and head
for the banks of the Spree where you can party with a few hundred of your
newest friends at Rummelsburg Berlin. If you prefer a slightly slower place,
chill in a cabana on the man-made beach or grab a few beers and grill the night
away at this hidden oasis.
ic! Berlin S25 Tegel |
S25
Tegel - RM1,580
There’s
more to Tegel than the airport. There’s also a really old tree. Fat Mary (real
name) is over 900 years old and grows in the gardens of Tegel Castle. If you
were lucky enough to get a window seat, you can’t help into Berlin. The second
largest lake in Berlin, in summer it teems with Berliners boating, hiking,
swimming and of course grilling.
ic! Berlin S42 Wedding |
S42
Wedding - RM1,580
Wedding
has been Berlin’s next up-and-coming suburb for the past few years now and is
home to one of Berlin’s coolest performance spaces – literally. The Stadtbad
Wedding started its life over 100 years ago as a public swimming pool, but
these days ranks among Berlin’s best nightclubs. It’s a night out like no
other. Berlin’s thriving arts community is spread all over the city, but here
in the north they congregate at Uferstudios, a former bus depot converted into
a sprawling studio and performance space, with regular performances,
exhibitions and workshops open to the public.
ic! Berlin U5 Alex |
U5 Alex
Just
like all roads lead to Rome, all trains, trams and busses lead to
Alexanderplatz. The centre of Berlin’s roaring 20s nightlife, Alex, as the
Berliners call it, is now a major shopping and transport hub with over 360,000
visitors every day. Most famous is the 365m TV Tower, the tallest building in
Germany with a rotating observation deck. If crowds and chain stores aren’t
your style, Nikolaiviertel, one of the two original settlements of Old Berlin
dating back to around 1200.
ic! Berlin U6 Stadtmitte |
U6
Stadtmitte - RM1,580
Take
the U2 or U6 to Stadtmitte and behold some of Berlin’s most beautiful
architecture. Exit the U Bahn via the “mouse tunnel” and you will pop out at
the bottom of the Gendarmenmarkt. Between the mirrored French and German
Cathedrals you will Beethoven and Wagner all premiered their works. Continue
north towards the historic boulevard Unter den Linden and behold the Alte
Bibliothek (Old Library) and Staatsoper (State Opera House), all commissions of
Frederick the Great.
ic! Berlin U1 Kotti |
U1
Kotti
Forget
Currywurst. The best street food in Berlin is the Döner Kebab, and the best
Döner is in Little Istanbul (naturally). Smack in the middle of Kottbusser Tor
(Kotti to the locals) is Tadim, where you won’t have to queue for 40 minutes
for your Döner (we’re looking at you, Mustafa’s). Döner in hand, get lost in
the streets of Kreuzberg and see some of the best street art Berlin has to
offer. Credit card burning a hole in your pocket? Get your hipster on at
VooStore on Oranienstrasse.

So I
have gave you a mini tour around Berlin using Berlin’s Metro. I am fascinated
with their concept and of course the innovation of the clip-on hinge system. ic!
Berlin captivates through its surface, form stability and flexibility
uncompromising quality and precision. Can’t wait for the upcoming ic! Berlin
SILMO 2014 Collection.
