These are the Malaysian classic dishes are influenced by cooking styles from our country multi-ethnic – Malays, Chinese, Indians, Peranakan, Eurasians, and the indigenous peoples of Peninsular and East Malaysia. Nasi Ambeng RM12.90

Nasi Ambeng
I remembered I ate this at one of my friend kenduri sometime ago and the combination of rice and noodles plus the dishes and condiments makes it memorable. This Malaysian-Javanese feast is meant for sharing as it is usually served in large round trays, layered with a piece of banana leaf. The set of Nasi Ambeng that I ate at Teh Tarik Place even though is single portion but I find it quite big for me, it’s good to be shared. It is served with fragrant multi-grain rice unlike the normal is white rice, along with other delicious condiments like tantalizing mee goreng mamak, a choice of ayam masak merah or ayam masak kicap, mouth-watering serunding kelapa, pajeri nenas and the customary ikan masin.

The right way to eat this dish is to combine everything and eat it. I like it when they use the multi-grain rice, when we combined with noodles and the gravy the rice is not sticky or soft; plus multi-grain rice is healthy and contains more fiber.

Laksa Johor RM8.50

Laksa Johor
Yummss!!! This is my favourite, I just can’t get enough of the kuah because it’s burst with flavours, the thickness of the fish broth and assortment of herbs, chilies and spices. According to the Chef at the Teh Tarik Place, they uses few types of fish and ingredients like ikan kembung, sardine, ikan masin, udang kering, udang and kerisik.

You know right, Laksa Johor uses spaghetti instead of the usual white Laksa noodle. Why? Legend has it that Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor discovered spaghetti bolognaise when he travelled to Italy. Upon his return to Malaysia, he requested his chef to substitute the bolognaise sauce with fish broth, and it has become a frequent dish for royal ceremonies. So that is how Laksa Johor uses spaghetti.

Mee Rebus RM7.50

Mee Rebus
Mee Rebus came about when Indian traders were moving through the country, eating and selling the food on the streets from two pots that they carried with them. As time progressed, the meal has become popular and mostly served in restaurants. Teh Tarik Place Mee Rebus tangy and spicy brown gravy is olala, I like it with additional lime. This hearty noodle dish is garnished with lime, chilies, vegetables, hard boiled eggs, as well as crunchy deep fried fritters, prawn and chicken.

These are the 4 classic Malaysian dishes that are currently on promotion at the Teh Tarik Place till 25th June 2014 just before Ramadan. It’s time to satisfy and treasuring Malaysian timeless comfort food that is rich in traditions.
