Review: Sony Alpha 5000 Lifestyle Camera

Konnichiwa! Recently if you have been following me on my instagram @kelly2988 you could see that I am so into Japanese lifestyle, cosmetics, skincare, products, food and culture. As you know last week I was involved in the Japan Beauty Week that’s gave me the opportunity to learn and understand more about Japan. I was inspired by the way Japanese women nurture their beauty. It’s inspiring. Well, my memories for the past two weeks were captured using this pink Sony Alpha 5000 (my baby). I received it as review unit during Sony Alpha 5000Bloggers Gathering @ Carcosa Seri Negara and now I am so reluctant to depart with my baby. Today, I am going to share with you about my Sony Alpha 5000 Lifestyle Camera Review.

What are the essential items for bloggers? What are the gadgets that bloggers must have? Of course, as a blogger the gadgets that we need and must have are smartphone, camera and laptop or computer. These are the 3 major items of our life. I am a beauty and lifestyle blogger not a professional photographer so the digital camera that I am looking for must be user friendly, good quality picture, light, stylish design and must be able to take selfie; Sony Alpha 5000 can do all that.

Let’s do a quick run about Sony Alpha 5000 digital camera

1. Design

The Sony Alpha 5000 digital is compact body and light with pop up flash and only weight about 210g. The body kit is chic and had a solid good grip on the right. There are 3 colors – black, white and pink. I love the Pink.

2. Image Quality & Background Defocus Effect

I like the Background Defocus Effect it brings out the best of the highlighted subject. Emphasizing the clean, crisp and sharp of the subject against a soft out of focus background. With 20.1MP Exmor™ APS-C HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X™ processor I get DSLR image quality and beautiful detailed images and the colours are very sharp. Even though I set my camera to Intelligent Auto mode I can get good pictures. If I were to use manual setting then the pictures will turn out to be more superb, like a pro-style picture quality. Just need to play or adjust the ISO, apature Sony Alpha 5000 is hassle free for beginners that use the auto mode because you can get good pictures too. The auto mode is incredibly effective.

Every girl will love the 180° tiltable LCD screen easy including myself… because I love to selfie and now I can send high quality pictures to my smartphone for using Wi-Fi connection or NFC one touch. Not only that, it come with 3 seconds timer for us to get ready and position.

Oh yes! now I can share high quality pictures on my social media platform such as instagram, facebook, twitter and foursquare. A few people actually commented that my pictures are better than last time. Well the secret is  I take the pictures using the camera and then transferred it to my smartphone via Wi-Fi Connection or I can also use the NFC one touch.

You must use this functions and it’s easy to setup, let me tell you how to send image or movie from camera to smartphone

i) Install the PlayMemories Mobile App by Sony on your smartphone,

ii) Display the image to be transferred on the camera

iii) For NFC – touch the smartphone to the camera for 1 or 2 seconds and the picture is transferred.

iii) For Wi-Fi Connection - Go to select MENU, search for Wireless (send to smartphone). Then select (select on this device – this image). When the camera is ready to be connected, an information screen is displayed on the camera. The camera will show information about the Wi-Fi device and password. On the smartphone just select the device and key in the password then the pictures will transfer to the smartphone.

The unit that I am reviewing had standard lens which is E 3.5-5.6/PZ 16-50 mm OSS. The Sony Alpha 5000 allows the flexibility to change the lenses like pro camera.

With the superior and photo creativity functions I can play with the easy adjustment / setting for background defocus, brightness, color and vividness. The background defocus pictures contrast obvious. Those focus area really turn out excellent and front like 3 dimensional. I believe I can play with more setting if I use the camera for longer. At the same time can add picture effect like toy camera, pop color, posterization, partial color, high contrast and etc.

Overall, the Sony Alpha 5000 is a Lifestyle Camera for people on the go. It takes good quality picture, light and chic body kit that allows interchangeable lens.
