Review: Thermage Treatment on Face, Hands and Knees

Hello 2014! Let’s kick start a new year with a new me. Well, should I say that I look younger now, my level of self confident increasing lol. I am feeling great because this is what every women wish for. I am sure some of you that have met me at the events, gatherings or see my pictures through my Blog, Facebook or Instagram; you might noticed that my skin is now glowing, fairer, my face is slightly sharper and all these makes me look younger right. Actually in early Dec 2013, I did my first Thermage treatment sponsored by Solta Medical, a global leader in medical aesthetics at the Damansara Heights Wellness Clinique, Kuala Lumpur. The procedure was done by Dr. Kuljit Singh, a friendly and experienced doctor in both general practice and medical aesthetics.

Treatment Room

This is my journey and experiences about my Thermage treatment on my face, neck, hands and knees. Thermage is a non-invasive radio-frequency (RF) treatment which combines heat energy to treat deep tissue, Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT) gentle vibrations, and interspersed cooling effects to protect the skin surface. It helps to stimulate collagen to target fine lines, and lift and contour my face for a more sculpted and even a brighter complexion.

After the Thermage Treatment

It is an anti aging treatment that is suitable for face and whole body. Please take note that this is not a surgery or botox injection, there is no cut, no anesthetic procedure and no injection. Thermage works on all skin types and colors unlike laser. It gives a gradual improvement and more natural looking results. 

Dr. Kuljit Singh, Damansara Heights Wellness Clinique

I did my treatment at The Damansara Heights Wellness Clinique located at the 1^st floor of Media Setia 1 shop houses in Bukit Damansara last month. The clinic is cozy and privacy is assured plus the staff and nurses there are friendly. This makes me feel at ease before I started the treatment which was performed by Dr. Kuljit Singh.

The whole Thermage treatment including consultation takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes. I started with skin consultation by Dr. Kuljit Singh. He explained the procedure in detail, so that I had a better understanding of this treatment, my skin conditions, what my skin needs, plus what I could expect after the treatment. 

After the consultation, I moved to the treatment room. The nurse cleansed my face. Then Dr. Kuljit started to mark my face according to grids, as you can see in the picture above. There are box marks on my face that serve as a guide for the radio-frequency heat and light shots to stimulate the collagen growth. 

In total I had almost 900 passes for my face, hands and knees. Mainly on my face, eyes and neck areas I used about 600 shots while both hands used about 100 shots and my knees about 200 shots.

As I mentioned Thermage treatment is suitable for the whole body. I tried on my hand and knees areas because these are the areas that start to wrinkle and age, plus they are very noticeable areas. Dr. Kuljit made a good point by saying that it would be funny if the youthfulness in my face did not match the skin on my hands and feet which is true! Before the treatment my face are slightly chubby on the cheek area plus I have eye bags, dark eyes circles and wrinkles on my eyes.

Overall, my Thermage treatment was tolerable there were a slight pain or sensation at certain point that are more sensitive like neck. The heat level starts from 0 till the maximum is 8. You can request the doctor to adjust the heat level to your acceptable level threshold.  

As for me the face was tolerable, my heat level is 4. And when it comes to neck the heat intensity increased, so I request Dr. Kuljot to reduce to 3. Immediately after the procedure my face looks a little bit red and slightly swollen however after about 30 minutes the redness and heat sensation subsided. The hand is painless, I feel a little bit ticklish though. From time to time during the procedure, Dr. Kuljit did check with me whether the heat level is ok for me or not and he also gave a detail descriptions why he do this and that. I am glad that the treatment was performed by an experienced and friendly doctor like him.

One more thing I would like to share with you is that there is no or minimum downtime for me. I can continue with my normal routine after the treatment. Oh yes, the day after my Thermage treatment I was outdoor almost the whole day at Tasik Titiwangsa shooting for the The Influencer show. I do not need to avoid the sun but I did apply a higher SPF sunblock SPF50+++ and I used my own skincare like usual unlike with no prohibitions unlike other laser treatments. 

 Before and After the Thermage Treatment 

Well, immediately after the treatment I can see that my jawline is sharper, then after one week my skin start to have the natural glow and gradually I feel that the wrinkles and pores on my face are less visible. After 8 weeks, my face looks fairer and sharper or slimmer. My skin feels firmer especially my cheek area. My eye bags and dark eye circles becoming lighter. 

One Month After the Thermage Treatment

Overall, my skin becoming more plump up, glowing and hydrated it could be the collagen level has gradually increased. This has somehow makes foundation easy to blend in and my makeup last longer. About my hands and knees I see some improvements, the skin texture is smoother and less wrinkles. I am happy with my skin improvements and getting compliments from my family and friends. I think Thermage treatment works for me and show visible results. I hope to see more results and improvements coming.

About Two Months After the Thermage Treatment

Well, after 2 months I began to see the changes getting more obvious. The firmness and the natural glow on my skin still maintain however I feel that my skin is becoming smoother and pores getting smaller. The changes I love the most is that my jawline becoming sharper. It is the overall aura that makes me look younger and yes I receive compliments from friends and family and thy can see the changes too.
