Note to myself on Sunday morning don’t be lazy girl. Let’s go for
a walk and better still if it is for a good cause. I was at Tesco Walk For
Life 2013, it’s my first year joining this charity walk. I get to know that
this is the 6th annual Walk For Life by Tesco Malaysia. Glad that it
was held in University of Malaya, I got my first bachelor degree there. We walk
5km around the University of Malaya campus and enjoy the scenic and greenery
surroundings.
There were about 4,000 participants. When we joined this walk not only we get to exercise and have fun with friends and family on Sunday morning but also we are helping the children with luekaemia.
Think about it, everyone
should participate if they can. It is not a vigorous marathon, just a casual
walk of 5km I think even the children can do that. Plus University of Malaya is
safe place to walk, the traffic is not heavy and there is proper walk way for
the participants.
The 5-kilometre fun walk was flagged off by Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Georg Fischer, CEO of Tesco Malaysia. The walk was also attended by local celebrities such as Vince Chong, Vanessa Chong, Moots from Pop Shuvit, Najwa Latif, Ben Ibrahim, Belinda Chee, Lisa Wong, Nicholas Mak, Rina Omar, Khai and Sahri Sarip from Akademi Fantasia 1, Michelle Lee, Dian Sharlin and the reigning Miss Malaysia Tourism, Thaarah Ganesan. Tesco also pledged to donate RM500 for every celebrity that came to support the cause.

By participating in the Clubcard Cop!Cop! Day Challenge, Tesco Clubcard members will stand a chance to win up to 1,000,000 Clubcard points (worth RM10,000).

Jointly organized by Tesco Malaysia and UMMC, this year’s Walk for Life raised over RM100,000 in cash as well as in kind. In total, the Walk for Life campaign has raised RM600,000 since the launch in August 2012. The funds raised will help families bear the cost of medication, treatment and hospital travel expenses for young leukaemia patients.
From a three-year-old to her 84-year-old grandmother, leukaemia
patients, charity homes and students, Walk for Life 2013 saw the
community coming together to battle childhood leukaemia.
