I am craving for Nook’s Sarawak Laksa when I blogged about this post. Last Friday evening, me and a few bloggers was invited to review the Malaysia
International Gourmet Festival - MIGF 2013 Menu at the Nook, Aloft Kuala
Lumpur. Well, it is One of A Kind Cuisine created by Chef Steven Seow.
MIGF 2013 Menu @ Nook, Aloft KL Sentral
Chef Steven Seow has takes the ideas from East Malaysia delicacies
and jazzing up the menu with Aloft modern chic style. As we can see there are local
favourites with an international gourmet twist to savour the Sabah
and Sarawak treasures.
We started with the Smoked Scallop Umai Sushi, Duck Confit with
Pomegranate and Yoghurt Sphere. The fresh succulent scallop is lightly seasoned
and smoked with lemongrass and wood to maintain its original taste.

Then
followed by the duck confit topped with crispy duck skin and a yoghurt sphere with
some drips of raspberry sauce.
|
Villa Maria Chardonnay, New Zealand |
The appetizer is paired with Villa Maria
Chardonnay from New Zealand. This is very light and easy white wine to kick
starts our palate. Wish I could have more crispy duck skin to go with the
Chardonay.

Sarawak Laksa with Organic Soba Noodle, Lobster & Abalone |
Next we are ready and excited for Nook’s must try dish. Our first
main course is Sarawak Laksa with Organic Soba Noodle, Lobster & Abalone.
The set looks so luxury, the aroma of the freshly grilled lobsters tickles the
smell senses while the thick, rich and spicy Sarawak Laksa soup kicks my taste
bud. I like the modern twist of this course when Chef Steven uses Soba noodles
instead of the usual yellow noodles. Well, it is healthier at the same time the
Soba is easier to digest. There is some improvements in Nook’s Sarawak Laksa
soup, it is now thicker, with more pepper kicks and flavorful. I think I added
the soup twice and also the sambal. It just me bet I like spicy food.
|
Laffe Blonde beer |
Well, the
spicy Sarawak Laksa is so cleverly paired with Laffe Blonde beer to bring out
the best of both. This is my first time trying Leffe Blonde smooth and the laksa
soup taste better with the beer.
|
Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang with Farm Vegetables Achar Jelatah, Tumeric Coconut Rice |
|
Madfish, Shiraz, Australia |
The second main course is the Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang with Farm
Vegetables Achar Jelatah, Tumeric Coconut Rice paired with Madfish,
Shiraz red wine from Australia.
|
Eight Treasures Ais Kacang |
The dessert is a feast for eye and soul. The set menu ended with a
sweet Eight Treasures Ais Kacang. It is served in a bowl and an array of
fun filled locally infused syrup in syringes.
The eight treasures is carefully prepared
consists of jackfruit, sweet potato, sago, cendol, black jelly, blackberries,
strawberries and blue berries. You might be curious about these colourful
syringes. It comes with fun syrup such as yellow – orange + lemongrass; red –
rose + strawberry; green – pandan + apple; brown – salted palm sugar and white
– cornflakes creamer.
