Malaysian Ladies Polo Championship 2013

It was a drizzling day but that does not stop the ladies from their polo match. I spent my saturday noon at the Royal Selangor Polo Club followed through the Malaysian Ladies Polo Championship 2013. The best lady polo players from around the region, competed on 12th Oct 2013, Saturday for honours and the world’s leading luxury Scotch whisky, Royal Salute. The lady’s tournament, which started five years ago, saw the following teams including defending champions La Boheme, La Pampas-GTM, Butterfly Twists and Jennzilla entering this year’s tournament, which was played to a 0 to 3 goals in handicap range.

Taking charge of the field’s challenging conditions due to sporadic rain throughout the day, La Pampas-GTM made up of players Fazila Filippi, Melissa Tiernan, Clare Donnely and Sarah Wiseman won the tournament scoring 4½ goals to 4; against previous winners La Boheme - made up of players Puan Seri Leah Hamdan, Lorna Dodd, Claudia Zeisberger, Sunny Hale and Kristy Hawkins who fought gallantly to the last chukka, missing the first spot by a ½ goal difference. Meanwhile, Butterfly Twists made up of players Saskia Karina Baharuddin, Aslizan Zainal Abidin, Lia Salvo & Hazel Jackson captured third place with 6½ goals to 4 goals against the team Jennzilla, made up of Jennifer Too, Adilla Jamaluddin, Marina Galarza and Paola Martinez.

The prize-winning ceremony saw the 1st place winners La Pampas- GTM presented with a bottle each of Royal Salute 21 Year-Old. Royal Salute further presented Royal Selangor Polo Club with Four (4) Royal Salute Diamond Jubilee bottles to be auctioned off as part of the night’s fund raising initiatives. RM11,600 was raised in the auction and the proceeds went to Yayasan Chow Kit and the Haemophiliac Society of Malaysia.

    

We were also treated to an intimate whisky mentoring sessions where they got to sample Royal Salute 21 Year-Old, the blended whisky that was originally produced in tribute of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with each of the whiskies in the blend aged at least 21 years old and Royal Salute The Hundred Cask Selection, an exceptionally aged reserve made up of 100 casks of malt and grain whisky stocks specially selected by Royal Salute Master Blender Colin Scott.
