Revenge has never been so sweet until Johann Strauss’ Die
Fledermaus or Revenge of the Bat comes to town on 4th
October 2013. This gala charity operetta will be held at the Dorsett
Grand Subang, Grand Selangor Ballroom. It is a comedy operetta in English
with 3 acts. The stage will be glamorously decorated according to 1920’s
Australian Art Decoration. This will be the first time the operetta is being
staged in Malaysia, with its 11 cast members and 9 members creative team.
Themed “The Revenge of the Bat”, the prologue of the musical tells
the story of how Dr Falke was hideously embarrassed by his best friend Gabriel
Eisenstein when left naked in the centre of town with only his mask to cover
his crown jewels after a drunken fancy masquerade ball.
The Operetta is directed by Frank Ford AM, Brian Chatterton OAM as
the musical director of “Die Fledermaus, has been the Musical Director of
Co-Opera since its inception in 1990. Taking on the role of ‘Eisenstein’,
Australian Tenor Tasso Bouyessis is equally at home on both opera stage and
concert platform. He is
highly regarded and respected for his versatility and experience in opera,
oratoria and lieder; having received awards in The Herald Sun Aria, The Sydney
Performing Arts Challenge and is a winner of the State Opera of South Australia
Aria Award. Tasso’s roles include ‘Alfredo’, (La Traviata) ‘Ismael’, (Nabucco)
for Opera Wanganui, New Zealand, ‘Rodolfo’, (La Boheme) ‘Pinkerton, (Madame
Butterfly) ‘Tamino’, (The Magic Flute) ‘Don Jose’’, (Carmen) Co-Opera, as well
as numerous minor principal roles with The State Opera of South Australia.
Nicholas Cannon, who plays the role of ‘Falke’, has performed
in Carousel with the Production Company in Melbourne, Sunday in the Park with
George with the State Opera Company of South Australia and his own cabaret show.
You can expect a lot of fun, mayhem and lots of champagne on stage
during the musical. Since its first premiere in 1874, Die Fledermaus has
received global theatrical ‘full-house’ respond whenever the musical is staged.
The main producer of the show, Co-Opera is the most travelled
opera company in Australia and possibly in the world. The new production of Die
Fledermaus in Malaysia is fully sponsored by the Australian Government and in
collaboration with Showtime Asia. Showtime Asia is the performing arts
Management Company and producer in Malaysia. The sponsors for the show are Land

The charity operetta tickets are priced at RM110, RM220, RM330 and
RM440 each, with part of the proceeds raised from this event will be channeled
to Kiwanis Club of Bukit Kiara in support of the Clubs’ continuous
