As a parent, nothing is more important than your child’s health. Which is why you should be equipped with the right information about Invasive Meningococcal Disease (IMD). IMD includes meningitis, which is a serious bacterial infection that can lead to severe brain damage or even death.

Groups at risk: Babies and young children

Babies and young children are particularly vulnerable to meningitis as they cannot easily fight infection due to an underdeveloped immune system. Meningococcal disease can be hard to recognize, especially in its early stages, because symptoms are similar to those of more common viral illnesses. Unlike more common illnesses, the disease can progress quickly and may cause death or disability in just a single day. Prevention is better than cure IMD can be prevented with adequate vaccines.
