Polaroid Eyewear in Malaysia

It was 1929 when the scientist Edwin Land invented the first synthetic polarizing filter, a breakthrough invention that is still the basis of all polarized eyewear, photo lenses and screens manufactured today. Since then Polaroid continues to research into technology and design, evolving its great expertise to achieve even better results in terms of eye protection, clarity of vision and wearable comfort. In April 2012, Polaroid Eyewear joined the Safilo Group.

The UltraSight lenses are made of nine functional elements. The core element of the lens construction is the polarizing light filter in the centre, the best technology for eliminating glare. UV light absorbers are bonded to both sides of the filter: these block all harmful UVA, UVB and UVC light rays. Shock-absorbing layers are then fused to both sides of the UV absorbers, making the lens light, flexible and impact resistant. A scratch-resistant layer on both the outer surfaces completes the lens structure giving optimal durability.

The Thermofusion technology is the innovative production process developed specifically for the UltraSightTM lenses. It allows lenses to be formed and protects the polarizer that is at the core of the lens. With injection-moulding the polarizing film for the lens comes into direct contact with hot plastic potentially compromising its efficiency, and lenses made by vacuum-forming can result in poor optics. With ThermofusionTM technology Polaroid has overcome both these issues by accurately protecting, shaping and tapering each lens during production.

The result is the new UltraSightTM lens with improved polarizing efficiency and greater visual acuity, allowing the eye, and the wearer, to relax. The unique ThermofusionTM process optically fine-tunes the lens while curving it.
