CNY 2013: Lai Ching Yuen Chinese New Year Menu

Tick Tock! Tick Tock! only 2 more weeks to Chinese New Year celebration. How was your preparation for this Water Snake year? How many times you Lou Sang already? Well, Chinese New Year here in Malaysia is never complete without Lou Sang.

These are the awesome celebratory dishes that we had at Lai Ching Yuen…

Yee Sang with Scallop, Pearl and Mango
Usually we have Yee Sang with raw salmon fish, this time in Lai Ching Yuen makes it a little different by using scallops. The special strawberry sauce for Yee Sang gives a sweet, slightly sour kick, I like it because it light and fresh. It is light and appetizing. The whole combination of scallops, pearl and mango including the Yee Sang ingredients tossed it with the strawberry sauce makes it.

Roasted Mini Duck

When this dish was served on the table I was wondering is it a chicken? Pigeon? Or??? No its mini duck. Actually mini duck the meat is softer, juicier and less fat than the normal size duck. I like the marinating, just nice not to blant or too salty. The skin is very thin and crispy.

Deep Fried Pork Knuckle

Chef Special Chilli Sauce for Deep Fried Pork Knuckle

Deep Fried Pork Knuckle

A sinful dish that loved by everyone. Can’t resist this crispy on the outside and quite tender on the inside, of course the pork knuckle. The fat that makes it taste nicer. Dip the crispy skin in the Chef special chilli sauce. Yummss…

Steam Squash Stuff with Dried Scallops

Steam Squash Stuff with Dried Scallops with Spinach

This is my favourite dish, it is simply delicious plus comes with spinach is healthy. My mom use to make this at home. When I see this dish served on the table it reminds me of home.

Deep Fried Prawn with Fresh Grapes and Mayonnaise Sauce

Its quite crispy and the prawns are fresh but I think the mayonnaise sauce is too thick therefore I don’t really taste the sweetness of the prawns.

Braised Sea Cucumber with Ling Zhi Mushrooms and Garden GreensI like the smooth and thin slices of Ling Zhi mushrooms

Chinese Wax Meat Rice with Yam Wrap in Lotus Leaf

Chinese Wax Meat Rice with Yam Wrap in Lotus Leaf

This is one of Lai Ching Yuen signature dish. Although I am already very full when this dish was served however I ate 1 bowl… the fragrant and the combination of the wax meat, yam, rice and the chinese spices plus a bit if cili padi = good.

Pan Fried Home Made Nian Gao

Seal the night with Nian Gao as dessert. Pan fried soft and melty Nian Gao sandwiched with yam. The Nian Gao is not that sweet and in thin slices.
