Thousands Flood Putrajaya In ‘Pink’ Charity
Unity
In conjunction with the global celebration
of Avon’s 20th Breast Cancer Crusade anniversary, Avon Malaysia proudly joins more than 58
countries in hosting its second Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer
event.
Kiss Goodbye to Breast Cancer, was held in Putrajaya
on 23rd Sept, 2012. The roads became a sea of pink as thousands
flooded Presint 2 & 3 in creative pink t-shirts and costumes in support of
the fight against breast cancer.
The event began with a Zumba dance warm up,
followed by the official flag off by YB Senator Datuk Heng Seai Kee, Deputy
Minister of Women, Family & Community Development, accompanied by Carolyn
Nur Amira Lee, Avon Malaysia ’s
Managing Director.
Walkers enjoyed a fun walking experience
throughout the 5km journey where they were entertained and cheered by an
eclectic mix of groups, including the Aswara Percussion Essemble, a ‘stress
free zone’ where walkers participated in stress free activities, “1 Malaysia”
cheer stations, BSE (breast self examination) human statues, creative cheer
stations by Avon staffs, and Ukelele players among others. Kids were thrilled
as they walked the stretch with Spiderman, Superman, Cat Woman and other
superheroes.
Apart from joining in the activities, many took the chance to record their memorable walk with local idols and Avon celebrities. These celebrities include Avon ambassadors Scha Alyahya, Noor Neelofa and Soo Wincci; together with other supportive celebs, namely Linda Jasmine, Que Haidar, DJ Jeff, Leslie Chai, Alan Yun, Dato’ Fazley, Harimau Malaya striker; Safee Sali and many more.
The first 200 walkers who completed the
walk then formed a human pink ribbon as a symbolic gesture to celebrate the
upcoming Pink Ribbon October month.
Madam Siow Fei Fong, 41; a breast cancer
survivor and mother of 3 young kids, took to the stage in sharing her
experiences, followed by the presentation of donation cheques amounting to
RM50,000 from Avon to Breast Cancer Welfare
Association (BCWA) and Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation.
However, the main buzz after the walk came
from a session of flash mob dance organized by Avon headquarters staff that was
impromptu joined by walkers, and a “Go
Bald” session, courtesy of professional hairdressers Michael & Guys Hair
Salon and Academy, where Ms Callie Goh, Chief Creative Director of Michael
& Guys Hair Salon and Academy personally conducted the “Go Bald” shaving
session.
The walk is currently being considered for
endorsement by the Malaysia Book of Records for the Largest Participation
Breast Cancer Charity Walk in Malaysia .
