The Gift of Learning Charity Campaign for Special Children by P&G, Giant and Guardian Malaysia

What I did on the last day of July? ...playing at Caterpillar, Sri Hartamas on tuesday morning shhhh….  As I entered the children were busy concentrating their masterpiece, some of the P&G, Giant and Guardian staff and media assisting the children with their brilliant masterpieces.

P&G, Giant and Guardian Presented RM200,000 Contribution to 
8 Special Children Centres Nationwide

Malaysians’ generosity helped The Gift of Learning charity campaign exceed target. P&G, Giant and Guardian announced that the 2-month community initiative collected a total of RM200,000 far beyond the RM150,000 target.The contribution was raised through sales proceeds of P&G products including Pantene, Olay, Rejoice, Head & Shoulders, Clairol Herbal Essences, Whisper, Downy, Gillette, Oral-B, Ambi-Pur, Febreze, Dynamo and Fab made at Giant and Guardian stores nationwide.

Eight centres namely Persatuan Kanak-kanak Istimewa Ampang, Tasputra Perkim Ampang, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang, Spastic Children’s Association of Penang, Perak Association for Intellectually Disabled, Persatuan bagi Kanak-kanak Kerencatan Akal Johor, Seri Mengasih Centre Sabah and Sarawak Autistic Association each received RM 25,000 which will go towards the training and therapy of special children in the respective centres. It is estimated that more than 1,000 special children of various learning disabilities will benefit from this contribution.


Expressing P&G’s appreciation for the campaign’s success, Ms. Ellie Xie said “We’re deeply touched and overwhelmed by the caring nature of Malaysians. Their support for this campaign has enabled more special children to receive the training and therapy they need for a brighter future. We must also thank our ever supportive partners, Giant and Guardian who made it all possible through their wide network of stores. Their passion towards helping the community is commendable.”

After the drawing activities and cheques giving ceremony; the children and employees were also treated to a series of entertaining games and sing-a-longs. The day was a meaningful one creating a deeper understanding on the challenges that these children have to face in their everyday life.


  
P&G through its local CSR programme Open Minds for the past 12 years has been a strong advocate for children with learning disabilities. The aim is to provide educational opportunities for children with special needs such as autism, cerebral palsy and dyslexia in the country and to assist them to reach their full potential. To date, the company has touched and improved the lives of more than 10,000 children in Malaysia through various charitable initiatives.
