Tokyo Marathon 2017 Experience, My 1st World Marathon Majors
Yes!!! finally
I did my first World Marathon Majors in
Tokyo Marathon 2017 on 26th
March, 2017, The Day We Unite! It was memorable day and run for me when I crossed the finishing
line at 5:50:40 to be exact, I cried. All the energy, time, effort, and training
it’s worth it. Well for some of you this may not be a great timing but for a beginner
like me it’s an achievement. We all start somewhere and progress from it. Respect the distance and
finish strong.
Tokyo Marathon 2017 Experience & My 1st World Marathon Majors |
Well, to
be honest I only started running seriously since February 2017. Before this I don’t
have any proper training or guidance. I did my first marathon at Standard
Chartered KL Marathon 2016 and finished it at 6:52:46. And it’s a bit of a struggle
after 30KM because the weather is getting hotter and my started to cramp.

When I did
my Tokyo Marathon 2017, I am more prepared and was trained for 5 weeks plus the
weather is good in Tokyo was good, it’s approximately 9 to 10 degree Celsius.
It was a good day, no raining, not so windy and slightly sunny. I finished stronger
and faster with a smile. I believe that I can do better in my next marathon.
There is
no injury, on the evening itself we went out for our feast and mini
celebration. The next day continue to go around Tokyo, did some last minute
shopping and managed to watch Sakura started to bloom at Yoyogi Park before
flying back home.
Before the run start, we were at our respective gate. I was at Gate 5 Tokyo Marathon 2017 Experience |
Every kilometer
I ran for someone, there are 42 people in my mind that keep me going. What did
during the race day was stay focus and keep to my pace, although at km 36 my
legs started cramped and my knees hurt a bit because of the wind at certain
points was quite strong. The determination to push for the last few km got to
be strong, it’s so near the finishing line yet so far. When I crossed the
finishing line it's all worth it.
During the run, weather was good and I saw many runners in their colorful attire and also cosplayer Tokyo Marathon 2017 Experience |
The
whole race was so well organized and coordinated although there are about 35,000
runners on that day, there are no pushing or accident. From the moment I collected
my race kit till the end of the race I collected my medal.
After the run, after the finishing line Tokyo Marathon 2017 Experience |
There were more sufficient
water and isotonic drink stations along the run. Oh ya, did I mentioned there
were food stations also, yes they served really awesome food like bananas,
tangerines, tomatoes, buns, sweets and many more.

Not only
that I was amazed because there were so many supporters along the way, non-stop
cheering and some even bring food, drinks and sprays to offer to the runners. The
volunteers and supporters were really amazing, such a kind and encouraging
nation.

If
possible I hope there will be more mobile toilets along the way and especially
before the starting point. And I really wish that we can have a finisher tee,
am I too wishful? Other that these two I think the organizer did very well.
Thanks to ASICS for such a memorable experience and run at Tokyo Marathon 2017 |
Thanks
to ASICS for such a memorable experience and hope to run Tokyo Marathon again. So
now I've completed my 1st World Marathon Majors, 5 more to go New York,
Chicago, Berlin, London and Boston. Will I make it? I will continue to train
and run. As I may not be there yet but I am a step closer than I was yesterday. Strive for Progress not Perfection and Dare to Dream!
