Hi! Have you visited Setia City Mall? For those who stay
in Setia Alam or Shah Alam (depends on which area of Shah Alam) I am sure you
did. I have visited the malls a few times since the opening on May 2012.
Last week, Setia City Mall has launched the ‘Love Green,
Begin’ campaign in support of Earth Hour. The initiative aims to educate
shoppers on the importance of sustainability in a fun way and to provide a
platform for the shoppers to understand how the sustainability features
implemented in the mall has helped it reduce its carbon footprint.
For ‘Love Green, Begin’ campaign, sustainability tours for
the public showcases Setia City Mall’s environmental sustainability effort, at
the mall’s Lower Ground Floor. During the tour, shoppers will learn how the
mall’s green initiatives have helped it considerably reduce water consumption
by 20% and energy usage.
Some of these include efficient fixtures and fittings to
ensure high energy and water efficiency; usage of low emissive glazing to
reduce the heat into the mall, thus lessening the reliance on the
air-conditioning; the implementation of an integrated building energy
management system for a lower carbon footprint; the adoption of rainwater
harvesting for landscape irrigation; usage of its own recycling centre to
recycle food waste; and the introduction of the Green Lease to engage the
tenants to play their parts in minimizing the environmental impact.
By the way, Setia City Mall, the first mall in Malaysia to be awarded both the Green Mark Gold Award by the Singapore ’s Building Construction Authority (BCA) and the Malaysian Green Building Index’s (GBI) provisional silver certification.
